Well, you deffinately have the trans to a 56' 640.

Could be a trans swap or a sheetmetal transplant.

Here are the numbers I found:
Transmission NCA7006
Gen side of motor 65R-1
Dipstick side FAE-6015-J
Right axel R06-82
Left axel 9-09 or 6-60

Also what is the oil filter (Fram etc) replacement # I can't make it out on the one that's on now.

One more: what is the purpose of the lever on the right side under the seat?

If you have the spin on filter it is a fram PH8A.. a motorcraft fl1a also fits, as well as a napa 1515 or a 1452

The lever under the right side of the seat is the Position/Draft control. With the lever horizontal you are in Position mode and the raise/lower lever directly controls the position of any implement you have mounted to the 3 point hitch. With the lever in the vertical position you are in Draft mode which is used for plowing. If the plow encounters hard ground the 3 point hitch will raise automatically to allow the tractor to continue moving and then when the plow has cleared the hard ground it will lower again. In Draft mode the implement will not raise up until the raise/lower lever is nearly in the full raise position.

That motor was made in late 1956 and is a 134 cu in engine. So you have a 1956 640 with newer 2000 sheet metal on it.
