Any tips on replacing the flywheel starter ring

OK, Bob, I've done just one... and had to get help... but.... remember the drive engages from the rear or transmission side. That is not necessarily intuitive when the flywheel is off... Don't put it on backwards!!

Also, you need to get the ring pretty darn HOT to get it to drop on... some say blue color, some say dull red... it cools fast and that means it shrinks fast, too.

Change your transmission front seal as long as you have it split.

I did one also. I got everything back together and tested the starter and the ring gear spun on the flywheel --RATS. Had to resplit the tractor and I put on 6 equal length, equal sized welds to hold the ring gear to the flywheel -- I had the flywheel refaced and reset the clutch fingers too. New dual sealed pilot bearing too My $0.02
