Went to start the TC21D & nothing. It seems that the group 45 battery has finally "left the building". Most auto places have nothing but dumb looks when you ask for a group 45. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Steve |

Do you have any farm stores nearby? Tractor Supply, Oerscheln', etc are usually a better source for farm stuff. |

Thanks Goose, but I've been looking through Farm & Fleet's and TSC's websites. Nothing for group 45 (at least indicated). It looks like I might need to go to the HN dealer and pay god knows what for a battery that has been on their self for god knows how long... I was trying to avoid driving all over, but maybe I'd have more luck if I actually went to one of the above stores & found someone who knows something about batteries. |

a group 45 battery is common, go to a napa or carquest ect that has a older gent working in it, he'll know what it is, these kids just dont know anything that their computer wont tell them,no education, now all we got to do is figure out if its their fault, their music, or their teachers that they are that way |

shuldn't be a problem. For Exide products, it's the battery part number- example, a group 45 with a 60 month warranty is a 45-60, with a 72 month warranty it's a 45-72. They're all racked by group size. (hint- they're also racked FIFO first in first out; tell the guy you want your battery pulled from the HIGH side of the rack ((they flow downhill on a slanted rack)) to get the latest and freshest). Any Sears guy can help you- they know group sizes and sell Johnson Controls batteries. |

Yeah, I went in to A-Zone looking for a group 27 for my Dodge a while back. I walk in carrying the old battery and the guy stops me, and asks if he can help. I say OK & tell him I need a group 27 battery. He says sure, what's it off of? I say why's it matter, I need a group 27 battery. He says I need to know the make/model to look up the right part. I say it's a group 27, but then give in. We go through the whole pedigree, 2001, Dodge, Ram 1500, V8, 5.9, 4wd, short bed, x-cab, cloth seats, dark green, etc. He gets enough info to place an order for an entire new vehicle from the factory, and then says hmm, let's go look on the shelf. We walk to the shelf and stare at it for a while until he says, I guess we're sold out, there's where we keep the group 27's.
Why we couldn't have done that 15min sooner, I'll never really understand. |

Several years ago I went to Sears to buy a battery. Cletk asked what I wanted.
"Gimme the biggest battery you got."
"What is it for?"
"Gimme the biggest battery you got.
This went on for about three rounds.
"What you gonna put it in?"
"Vega, now gimme the biggest batter you got.
"What you want is this," pointing to something that looked like a 12v lantern battery."
"No what I want is something like that." pointing to something that looked like it came out of a Linclon Continental.
"Look, just sell me that battery."
Well, after a bunch of grumbling he did.
As I picked up the battery and walked out, he followed me, opened the door, and right out into the parking lot.
"Why you following me?
"I wanna see you put that into your car."
"OK, here's the key, open up the back for me."
He stood there with his jaw trembling as I dropped the battery in the trunk, got in the car and drove away.
Battery did actually go into my WIFE'S Vega. Seems that You could bend the lip down on one end of the battery tray, and put a real decent size battery in there! Wanted the bigger battery because of 2-way radio, extended use of lights, ability to boost other cars, etc. Besides the price was the same as the little battry! |

Update - Manual said that the tractor used a group 45 battery. I finally found one at a Napa Store. Nice guys. They did not have it in "stock", but said that they could have it there by 1pm the same day! Took me longer to get there. However, when I put my battery up to this new G45 battery, the original battery was considerably smaller. The new G45 did fit in the space though. All looks good. But there must not be much competition for G45 batteries... $80! For a battery that is half way between a motorcycle battery & a regular car battery. |

...that co-incidentally also involves a vega! Many moons ago, I worked for a large retailer that had an autocenter (S#*r$, for what it's worth). To jump start customer's dead cars, we would us a warranty return battery that tested good and "hardwire" a set of jumper cables to it- hack the ends off and use those cheap bolt on clamps to permanently attach the cables to the battery post. This was before the now fashioable booster boxes.
One day, we get a call from a customer dead on the other side of the mall- so "Joe College" throws the "booster battery" into the back of his hatchback Vega (amidst much McDonalds bags, etc) and runs off to be of service.
10 miutes later he's haulin' a$$ back across the parkinglot, rear of the Vega a huge fireball. Ends of the cables crossed, melted away the insulation and set the burger wrappers on fire- burnt that rascal to the ground. Could have killed him...but couldn't help but laugh at the sight of that beater blazing like a comet with him furiously hauling back to the shop! |
