B allis broke manifold ear

greetings.
the manifold i have on the B now is rotted out.
i have another that has the front bolt ear broke off and i don"t have the peice.
what are your ideas about grinding the manifold away from the ear (bolt hole)on the old manifold and getting it fixed onto the replacement one i have. and how would that be done?

Depends on how bad it is and where it is. I have got by with using a washer or a nut a size or 2 bigger on some places and have tractors that are like that for decades. Of course you can also take your old manifold and the better to a machine shop and they can cut and weld the parts up also but that might cost as much or more then a new manifold would

thank you for the reply.

i haven't been out to look yet but i was wondering if i can build a bridge across the other bolt holes with strap metal and spacers so i can afix the frontside down tight so there's no leak, that is using longer bolts also.

if i have to go with a new one or get the old one fixed what's the torque to mount the manifold so i don't break it again or break a new one.

Would you believe the book does not list a torque for them. I use about 35ft/lbs on the ones I install

Remember - most intake/exhaust manifolds on older tractors are cast iron. Welding cast iron so the repair holds can be done but requires special equipment, such as TIG, or special rods or nickle wire (both are expensive). Even then, welds must be kept to less than 1/2" and the casting completely cooled before proceeding. Before you frustrate yourself I suggest you go to Millerwelds.com and read their instructional info on cast iron or have coffee with a master machinist. Sometimes the old simple washer and bolt repairs were done for more reasons than cost.

I have done two with washers and bolt and it works ok. No leak.
