How do you read a v-belt number, for example, I have a belt with the following on it: XDV 58-420, than a space and then this number L542. I need a belt about one inch shorter, than this one. I am thinking that the 420 or the 542, would be a 42" belt. Any information on this would be appreciated! Thanks

Yah, probably is a 42" belt. Measure with a tape on the outside to check. That's the dimension specified. Run a 1/2" wide tape around the tops of the pulleys to be sure a 41" belt is what you need.
