Has anyone done a valve job on a 930 diesel lately? I"ve got one down for an inframe and she"s lookin marginal. My biggest concern is the valve seats, as the other parts are available aftermarket. Do I dare have them ground? My book says not to grind them and the dealer says the seats are no longer available. I"m not real excited about haveing some made but I can tell I"ve got a couple leaking. Any suggestions?

There are several aftermarket valve seat
manufacturers , martin- wells is one , tucker
valve seat is one , J- loy is another.
Clevite has ex seats.

If you don't find them , send me an email and
I'll get you some .

I don't know what book you have that says not to grind the seats, that is the only way that they can be renewed and the Case service manuals give all the procedures for stone grinding the seats and refacing the valves. Certainly the valve height is important so the valves should not be sunk into the head beyond the specs given in the manual as it will affect compression to a degree but a good valve job is essential and I have done many on these style heads. If you are going to do a GOOD rebuild on your heads the Power Cells also should be checked for proper seal and the faces lapped in if necessary. Most people overlook this very necessary step and a Power Cell burnthrough can cost you a head. If you have any doubt about what I have told you take the heads to a shop that specializes in these style heads and get them done as they are more of an special type combustion chamber that must be done right by someone who understands them and their disassembly/reassembly procedure. mEl

Thanks for the info guys!!! I think at this point it would be best for me to take the heads to a machine shop. Any particular ones you guys suggest that are farmiliar with these heads? I'm from eastern iowa, but not affraid to ship them to someone who will do me a good job.
