This past summer I bought a 58 D14 to hopefully bring back from the grave. It has many problems but looks pretty good. It starts and runs ok but if I try to let out the clutch before it is really warmed up, it sounds like it is working very hard and quits. After it is warm the problem goes away. I don't want to tear it down if it is not neccessary. Anyone have any ideas?

I just picked up a d17 that has the same issue. I'm hoping that a change of fluids (transmission and rear end) will remedy the situation. It feels like the fluids are either too thick for winter use or have water in them that is freezing in the cold temps. Will know more in a week or so.

Just changed fluid in PD, transmission, and hydraulics. I used Univeral trans / hydraulic oil in all of them and cold weather performance is greatly improved.
