I am finally going to have to do the brakes on my old 1200 D B. Other than taking off those heavy bull gears, the brake job seems to be fairly easy but while they are off I decided the smart thing to do would be to change the axel seals while I have it down. Although they are not leaking it would be a shame to have to go through this again soon after the brake job. The axel seals are going to be a problem. I cannot get the cylinder(spool) that holds the axel seals in place out. I have fabricated a puller that bolts into the cast spool that sticks back into the hub. I am assuming that those 2 little tapped holes in the spool are there for this purpose. I pull until it looks like something is going to brake but the spool will not budge. I have thought about heating it red hot and pulling on it the next morning but this is going to melt the existing seals. Then if I cannot get it out I will certainly be up $hit creek. Any experienced guys with David Browns on here that know about this. I need some help bad. Thanks

I carried mine into the dealer and let them do it. They ended up putting something in backwards or not seating something far enough. Had metal grinding metal when I moved the tractor. They ended up coming to my garage and fixing it correctly.

The 2 holes are jack screws to pull the seal housing, give it plenty of your favorite brand of penitrating fluid, they can be tight. Don"t forget to engage and tie the diff-lock pedal down before you remove the right side reduction.

hi the two holes are only for attaching a puller to if you get a flat bar about 3/8" to 1/2" thick drill two small holes for the bolt holes in the seal housing and one at each end of the flat bar thread these or weld nuts on for the bolts to pull with these against the axle casing end, if you have a flat screwdriver you could hit with a hammer and try hitting it into the seal housing edge next to axle this will help to move it when you get it out a bit lever it out used this method myself a few thmes you may need to be careful with this method i think the seal casing is cast i have never broke or cracked any of these casings doing this,when you put the axle seals in put grease between them and apply gasket sealer compound around the outside of the seal housings.sorry about the long winded reply tom
