I was running my 930 last week and noticed that when idling prior to shut down the temp gage was full range. I increase the rpm and with 10 seconds it was down where it should be. (170/180). Thermostats are new and heads had been machined and installed with new gaskets. any thoughts about what might cause this? There is an alternator on this unit. Would it have anything to do with voltage at low idle?

Have you back washed the radiator fins and flushed the cooling system?

With it cool, remove the bottom radiator hose and see if the radiator tank empties in just a few seconds (Capture the fluid for reuse if it is clean and has new antifreeze). If it takes a while to empty the radiator may need to be rodded and at idle you just aren't getting sufficient flow for proper cooling.
