I was looking at the post on 201 engines. Not to critize but want information. It was stated the 201 and other continental engines used sae standard #1 bell housing. My charts show a #1 to have 20.875 diameter 12 bolts with 7/16 size. Why I am asking this afternoon upon checking other transmissions, clutches, and engines in my shop I havean automatic 2 speed shuttle tranamission from an aircraft tug . My thought is to mate this with a a vac tractor engine. It has 15.00 inch diameter 12 3/8 holes my chart shows this as an sae number 4 housing. Is the vac really 20.875 inches diameter?? Not being critical just thinking Bill Wilson

I was just posting what is in my liquid cooled engine charts. Obviously, I haven't measured them all personally. There are also many variables. The chart does not always make it clear is an SAE adapter is invovled, or not.

Some engines use adapters to meet SAE mount specs.

I have 188 and 207 Case diesels in my shop and both have adatpers on the back of the engine that convert them to SAE. One came out of a Case forklift.

My engine-spec chart for 1963, does not show direct SAE patterns on the 188 or 207.

Here are some of the listed specs:

Case 251, 277, 267, 401 - all have SAE 1 patterns on the engines.

Case 148, 159, and 188 use adapters to fit SAE.

Allis Chalmers 262 uses SAE 2 or 3
Allis Chalmers 138, 149, and 226 use SAE 4

Caterpillar - all SAE 0 or 00

Chyrsler Industrial and Marine - Model 31 and 32 use SAE 3 or 4, 170 and 225 use SAE 4, 318 uses SAE 3 oe 4, 361 and 414 use SAE 2 or 3.

Continental 371 and 427 use SAE 2, E201, E208, E203, F140, F162 use SAE 3, F186, F209, F226, F224 use SAE 4, G or GD157 uses SAE 3 or 4, M271, M290, and M330 use SAE 3, N62, Y69, Y91, and Y112 uses SAE 5

Cummins C105 uses SAE 3, C160, C175, NHC4B1 and JN130 use SAE 2, NH220, NHRS6B1, NH250, NT280, NT335, and NT380 use SAE 1, V6 200 and V8 265 use SAE 2, V8 350 and VT8 430 use SAE 1, V12 525 and VT12 700 use SAE 0

John Deere - no engines with SAE mounts

Ford -134 and 172 uses SAE 3,4,or 5, 262 uses SAE 3 or 4, 220-4D uses SAE 3 or 4, 272 V8, 292 V8, and 330-6D use SAE 3 or 4, 332 V8 SAE 2 or 3, 401 V8, 477 V8 and 534 V8 use SAE 1 or 2,

General Motors 2-53, 3-53, and 4-53 uses SAE 4, 6V-53 uses SAE 3, 2-71 and 3-71 uses SAE 3 or 4, 4-71 and 6-71, and 6V71 use SAE 1, Series 110 uses SAE 1/2

Hercules D2000, D2100, D2120, D3000 and D3400 uses SAE 2 or 3, G1500, G1700, G2200, and G2300 use SAE 2,3, or 4, DRXC diesel uses SAE 0, 1, or 2, G3000 and G3400 use SAE 2, 3, or 4, D1500 and D1700 use SAE 2 or 3, IXLB uses SAE 4 or 5, JXC and JXD uses SAE 3,4, or 5, QXLD uses SAE 3 or 5, ZXB uses SAE 5 or 6, Hall-Scott 590G uses SAE 2 or 3, Hall-Scott 590G or 590B uses SAE 2 or 3, Hall-Scott 182 uses SAE 1 or 2, Hall-Scott 400 and 2269 use SAE 0.

International Harvester - DU66D, DU99D, DU74D, DU111D, DU132D use SAE 4, C60 and UC60 use SAE 5, C135, C153, and UC135 use SAE 4, C221, UC221,C263, UC263, D282, and UD282 use SAE 3, D554,UD554, DT817 and UDT817 use SAE 1, D691 and UD691 use SAE 0, UB264 uses SAE 4, U308 uses SAE 3, UR372, UR450, UV401, UV461, UV549 and UR501 use SAE 2, UD370, UD14A and UD817 use SAE 1, UB220 and UB240 use SAE 4, UV345 uses SAE 3

Minneapolis Moline - 220-4 uses SAE 4, 336-4 and 425A-6 use SAE 2, D425-6A uses SAE 2, 605-6 and 800-6 use SAE 1

Oliver - no SAE mounts

Perkins - no SAE mounts

Waukesha - ICK and FC use SAE 5

Willys Motor Inc. - four cylinder 134 c.i. 3 1/8" bore by 4 3/8" stroke - all SAE 4 or 5, six cylinder 226 and 230 c.i. - valve in block or head - SAE 4

Bill,
I will ask my neighbor about the SAE sizing. Even though he is amish he is pretty up on them housing. But, yes a SAE 1 is huge compared to a VAC engine. I have a UD 16 IH with a adapter ring on it. The bell on it was a 1 with a ring to drop it down to a 2. I wish someone would buy that beast. Also got a number 2 straight clutch to go with it.
