Ok so trying to pull a cam for a guy who needs one. I have the front cover off the cam gear off and the 2 bolt retainer part off. I can turn the cam a full 360 by hand but it will not pull out more then about a 1/4 inch so is there any magic to pulling one??
Thanks

The distributor shoud be removed and the tappets need to be held up. The easiest way is to have the engine upside down, then the tappets are away from the cam. If you cannot invert the block, remove the push rods and hold each tappet up with a magnet or a wooden dowel that fits tightly in the push rod hole of the tappet. Hold the dowels up with closepins.

Head off distributor is pulled but ya the engine is still on the tractor so flipping is not an option so guess I'll have to see what I can do about the tappets. Figured it might be something like that but since they do not have a side cover it was hard to tell for sure

If you have or can borrow some long magnets, you can use them to hold the tappets up.
