4610 Steerring leak at pitman arm

My 4610 has oil seeping from the pitman arm. The parts manual shows two "seals" which I think are orings inside and 2 felt seals on the outside of the housing. Once the pitman arm is removed, is it possible to replace the orings without removing the steering shaft? Thank You for ideas.

4610 Steerring leak at pitman arm

I found the parts. The pitman arm came off with a heavy duty puller and no heat. I replaced the 2 orings which were flat on inside and no longer soft like the new ones. Put on a new cover gasket with new washers for the banjo fittings . Put on 2 felt dust seals. Leak is stopped for now...

4610 Steerring leak at pitman arm

Thank You Bern, I wanted to have the oval gasket and seals for the banjo fittings on hand before starting the project. I was hoping I could get by the easy way so I thought I would ask. I will get a large pitman arm puller and give it a try. I tried previously but couldn't get it to move off...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

Got it figured out. It was the alternator. It was charging the battery just fine but the power to the instrument cluster comes from the spade connector on the alternator. I think! I put on a new alternator and with engine running and key off the alt light comes on dim. The fuel gauge also...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

Sean, I knew what I meant. Ha Ha , yes, Rod used the correct terminology. Today I Tried a new oil pressure sender and hooked up an aftermarket gauge cluster. The new cluster fuel gauge was smoother than the original, the light still will not glow dim when engine running and key off. I...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

Hi Rod, Yes, that is what I am familiar with, the dim light glowing with engine running and key off. I think you may be on the right track with the grounding. I will do some tests; one test will be to run a dedicated wire from a good ground to the cluster ground spade. I will try other ways...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

Thank You, you cleared up some mis information I had. I will lower the fuel in the tank and see if there is any change in the bounce. I will look into the BG product for diesel. I can always try a new sender too. When I turn off the key and the engine is running, it does still charge the...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

Thanks for the reply. With the tractor running and the key in off position the light should glow, (I am pretty sure) I have a 4600 with the same setup. the 4610 used to respond the same way. I think it is a warning that maybe you accidently hit the key to the off position with your knee. The...

    4610 Gauge Cluster Question

I have a 1984 4610 with original gauge cluster. When running, the fuel gauge flickers and when I turn the key to off, the battery light does not glow as it should, I checked and cleaned all wires and terminals on back of cluster grounded the sender and got full gauge travel but when running it...

    8N Axels too long?

I always thought the tractor was cut down for use in narrow vineyards. I have another that is similar. The housing measures 42" from end to end and axels are 26 7/16". Were short axels and housings available?

    8N Axels too long?

Thanks for the replies. The tractor has 2700 hrs. and is in good shape. I will dress up the ends and reinstall. I think there is supposed be 2-6 thousands end play so I will see what happens. As long as both wheels don't turn the same direction when on jacks I guess it will last a few more...
