  • Hi all. Need help. Have a 800 series diesel that won’t fire even with starting fluid removed the head to see if I could identify a problem but so far she looks ok. Aside from a huge buildup in the cylinder head exhaust ports. Pistons look good and so do the valves. Having a hard time identifying whether or not it’s a sleeveless block, please advise.

    Welcome to YT. the answer might be directly associated with the carbon deposits. Diesels are prone to making carbon, but if they begin to wear the presence of extra oil cokes up (coking is the deposition of carbon into hard deposits through heat) the exhaust passages. low compression also makes starting very difficult.
