    555C Alternator Failure

So it seems the 555C has the same Lucas set up typical of Ford tractors from this era and it appears the reman I installed less than 25 hours ago in May of '20 failed. Sensor is hooked up under battery, battery was new in '19, just topped off all cells with distilled water, it tests good...

Green/Fresh Lumber - what paint for the ends?

So a long time friend and brothers, who are family to me, was able to get a bandsaw mill this year, Woodland Mills and they finally got this blow down white oak cut into logs and started milling. I was able to get a pair of 2 x 12 x 8' of this white oak and likely more as it is sawn up. What is...

    Ford 101 plow (unique)

So I came across this back in May. 80 miles away. Its 2-16, with all the extras, gauge wheel which I have never seen before, ford scripted moldboard extensions, and big ole trash guards. Only part worn are the landsides oddly enough as the other parts are like new in regards to wear. Moldboards...

Small/Modern Tractors to replace lawn tractor

The hydrostatic on the JD LA 135, 300 hours, gets hot and won't go up an incline, typical for these I think, throw away type deal. It does run very nicely and was meticulously maintained. It's still doing the cutting, works long enough, I do the hills first. Going beyond lawn tractor models, say...

    4000 series to 4630 Hyd/Diff/Trans Oil Temp

I am wondering what would make the transmission, hydraulic compartment and differential oil so hot, you can't touch the castings. Particularly my 4630, which has oil coolers in front of the radiator. I was mowing with a 6' rotary in easy to cut grasses and such. The heat coming off after 2 hours...

    4630 overcharging

Seems I noticed the 2nd to last time I ran it, started sluggish. It lives in a heated garage. This time, too weak, charged it but not long, started like normal. Checked with the battery meter, needle pegged past 14 to 15 if I recall and stayed there. So I ran it down to my beehives and medium...

    How to Break a Logsplitter!

Well, I've never been the type considered to be rough on things, you know the type that can tear up an anvil, but..... not immune from it I guess. This 28 ton huskee has served me well. I've split lots of elm, and plenty of larger diameter logs. This one is 24", heavy and the grain is...

OT - 327 Chevy wrist pin gouges cyl. wall

Never came across this before, any idea the cause? Then back story is the motor was rebuilt, say as was needed, cylinders just honed, new pistons, forget what was done in the heads, this was late 90s. So that cylinder lost compression. Friends 62 SS impala. In my new shop, we just got the...

    Hey Bern/others

Was there any inherent issue with 30 series tractors having the sending unit in the plastic fuel tanks on these tractors leaking ? My 4630 Ford/NH '97 or '98 model has had a fuel leak since I've owned it, since '15 and I have replaced the sending unit with the float assembly etc. Fill it up over...

    Stubborn Grease Zerks/Passages

So, I had some time to work on my backhoe, maintenance etc. I came across 2 fittings that won't take grease. 1st one is the inner and upper pin on one of the stabilizer arms. Nice tight pin, not all that critical, but it'll bug me until it takes grease like it should. Same one on the other side...

555C Bucket Teeth - Done! pics

Finally had a chance to get these bucket teeth done. Burned the top side and the sides off with oxy/acetylene torch, pounded them off. The roll pins, I heated, burned off the peened over ends from trying to pound them out, heated both sides, used a punch to drive each side till they broke...

    4000 Forklift 4110 LCG

Saw these while perusing CL. Don't see many of these forklifts around. Kirk in NJ has one if I recall. 4000 Fork Lift 4110 LCG

    Disc Harrow 4630 w/FWD

Mounted Disc Harrow - would a 9'-0" model be ok for a 4630 with FWD. I've run a M-F #25 that is 7 1/2" wide, don't even know it is there. Assume the larger one to be a good fit. Opinions, comments certainly welcome.

    Miller 225 Bobcats Onan Kohler

I stumbled into acquiring 2 Miller Bobcat 225 NT's one with an Onan 16 performer, 3207 hours the other has a Kohler, 1605 hours. At a glance I'd say they are early to mid 90's era. Owner at work was having one of the guys put them into the trash container, non running and said someone did try...

    Tractor Mounted Fire Extinguisher Survey

What do you have for a tractor mounted fire extinguisher on your tractors, equipment and or similar ? I need to add one or more to my R.O.P.S., something significant and more than adequate to stop a small fire before it gets out of control, the below post of one of my favorite tractors...

    555C - stubborn bucket teeth

Backhoe bucket teeth, vertically orientated, roll pin type, won't pound out. Need to change the worn ones out. Center of roll pin is packed with hard dirt, thinking time to heat with the torch, after removing dirt, see if the bond can be broken. Dirt is like concrete, might need a masonry bit to...

    Diamond Reo

Seems there's a sale several Diamond Reo trucks, click below. Can't say I ever drove one of these or a Brockway, though a friend in the excavating business had a Brockway tractor, lowbed trailer for equipment, just sold out, retired, ran it all these years, well kept too. Drove plenty of Mack...
