Pertronix Ignitor II bench test fail

If your Pertronix red wire went to coil +, and got the same resisted volts as the 6 volt coil, its likely the Pertronix was just suffering from low voltage. Best to call Pertronix if you decide to try it in the future. Thank you for the update.

    1948 8N rebuild progress

Hi JJay48, Mine broke years ago on the first one. Welded it up. Still no good. Sacrificed a cheap screwdriver. It bent. Welded on the bend to thicken, and got it to kinda work. Drilled blocks worked 100% in my experience. That tappet bolt can take some torque to turn. If wrenches bend, then...

    8N Won't Start

Unless you have lifted the dist out of the engine, my thought would be to focus on the points rubbing block, and bump the starter till its near the end of the cam's flat part, and about to be pushed by the lobe.( like in the pic) Hook up your meter probes one to ground, and the other to the...

    8N Won't Start

Agree, check static timing. If distributor clamp bolt loosens up, the housing may turn CCW, and "self retard." Also, the camshaft has a pressed on gear that drives the dist. Others have had their's slip.( so timing changes) Points should just break open, as flywheel is pried up with a...

Am I seeing an un connected white wire hanging loose from the hot side of the solenoid? If so, do not connect your battery, until this wire is removed.

    Electrical issues

Hi Ramoekal, My 8n sidemount with 1244a, key on, had either 12.55 or 11.44, on 3.0 ohm coil at the + terminal. Dropped 1.11 volts when engine rotation caused ignitor to ground the coil.( pryed flywheel with a screwdriver) ( left key on for only 30 seconds) Did you run suppression plug wires...

Pertronix Ignitor II bench test fail

Hi timsch, hope you see this. Called pertronix and asked lots of questions. Very helpful tech people there. Rather than typing what I heard them say, ( hersay) I'm posting screen shots of info they sent. The bench test you did appears only valid for Ignitor not Ignitor II. I'm wondering if...

48 Ford 8n Throttle linkage clearance.

Hi Gen236, that link rod to the long gov arm should not touch. Appears to me at idle, your lever assy is "clocked" too far to the left. Its just clamped around the notched throttle control rod. It can twist, and the notch can get wallered out. The white dots are lever positions at idle, and...

    Dowden foot pedal for 8n

Welcome aboard Magoo1! My link rod with the loop, f4 in the instructions, is adjusted to 19 5/8 long. The stock lever assy to gov link rod is adjusted to 24 inches long. The stop is about 4 1/2 inchesfrom the gov end.

    8N no oil pressure

Agree with HFJ and Tim, you can do this. Other possible oil pressure no prime reason may be aftermarket shorty length gears. Pumps had 9/16 gears up to serial number 247570, ( per parts oil pump section here at YT). 247571 and up had 3/4 wide gears. The Old Hokie posted years back about...

    8N no oil pressure

Yes, see if the end of the tube has movement. It may flex 1/8 inch, or so if still soldered good. It should not move and stay. I just had one that when wiggled, it was obvious the solder joint was loose at the pump cover plate. Yes should have a screen. I wouldnt run without one. This is a...

    8N no oil pressure

Hi BigstarATX, first thing I would do, is put fingers up in the oil pan drain hole, and see if the oil pick up tube is still soldered tight in the oil pump cover plate. If not, it can suck air, so the pump wont prime.

    Starter or solenoid bad?

Hi Larry, I'd just blame in on fingers not rememering. If you had tied a string to one of em 3 years ago to remember the wires go in-- 180 out on the cap-- that string would be long gone!
