Filled the trailer with a bunch of Deere today

I’m guessing this varies between states, but what are the regulations about a load extending beyond the trailer bed in the back? I just got started hauling my own stuff so I’m still learning.

    Plow day happened

Is this field one that one of the participants owns or rents? We’ve been fortunate to have found cooperating land owners in the last few years I’ve been around. I’ve been giving a lot of thought to formulating strategies for getting sites lined up to use in our area. The guys that have been...

    Tractor Size v Implement Size

Two thoughts: Fuel efficiency may be reduced. If you are pulling something like a plow or disk, you can gear-up and throttle down to compensate. Might be tempted to go faster than you should. Watch that with something like a disk harrow so you don’t throw soil too far and create ridges.

White 4-XXX four wheel drive tractors

If you read Larry Gay’s book, A Guide to Hart-Parr, Oliver and White Farm Tractor, there is an interesting description of the 4-150 (pg 67) being designed in response to customers requests. You’d think they were designing an IH 2+2. The 4-150 was 1974-78. 2+2s came out 1979. Hmmmmmmm….

    Coating a lawnmower deck

I’ve had a 38” Cub Cadet with one washout port and a 54” deck with two ports. They do not do a complete job. There are certain places that don’t get enough force to get it all off. Yes, it is the spinning of the blades that propels the water around. That’s how it’s supposed to work. Keep the...

    Sowing my oats

I am not up on what seed treatments are available for drill box application so just some general considerations. Seed treatment is buying insurance, usually relatively low cost. Probably less chance of germination/early emergence related diseases if delaying planting until soils warm up and...

    Spring Resets

I talked to a friend and he differentiated between the cushion reset bottoms that have the springs on the side and the spring automatic reset (SAR) that have the springs on top. He said if the cushion spring bottom went back that far that they trip, then the plow would need to be raised to reset...
