953 gear weight capacity

we have a 953 gear that we built into a header trailer, it currently hauls a 635F bean head with an air reel, we are looking at going to a 35 foot draper, dealer said the 635 auger head weighs 6710# (not sure how much the air reel adds) and the draper heads are in the 7600-7700# range. first question is anyone hauling a 35 foot draper head on a 953 gear? how does it seem to be handling it? if no one is running this set up what are the gears rated for? i have seen people saying in the 4-5 ton range which would put it right at rated capacity.

if we need to go to a heavier head trailer what is the best option out there?

also the furthest we go is 10 miles and usually follow the combine so only around 20mph.

Owners manuals say 4 ton but just about every hopper bed you will see on them would be putting a 8 ton load on the gear. The Deere is as heavy as a lot of gears rated at 6 ton, I had both.

Like the others said, no problem. I have 2 with gravity boxes on them that routinely haul 6 ton loads when one includes the box. No failures in the 1st 60 years...

953 wagons were originally advertised with a weight capacity of limited by the tires. Given the rims that came with them, that is likely true!
