D2 serial No

Hello my cousins mother inlaw has a D2 that was her late husbands ,they are trying to figure out the year, I found the serial No it is 5J443 I can't find any online places to look it up. My guess is it's a mid 38 ( just a guess ) could any one tell me ?? Thanks Bryan

Good guess, that is a 1938 model.

Indeed, first year production, 1938. The 443rd 5J series Cat D2 ever built.

Ther D2 was not a robust roller frame with thew way they used that tube /shaft in the middle of the roller frame to keep it aligned. The D-4 was much better made in that department . Other wise close to the same tractors. engines had a bit different bore or stroke. Been many years since I was around those our D-4 is still here on the farm. Never was around a D-2 though a neighbor was around them and made the staetment about the cylinder difference he's been dead for 10 years or more.
