Farmall 300 ta an trans question

Where the ta slides into 4th an 5th
slider gear looks to of gotten hot an
face of gear is groved....what caused
that....i just had TA rebuilt..was scared
of they way that gear looks....in the
shop manual paragraph 179,180 says use
otc puller fig.ih708 what is that
for...is that for the roller
bearing..fig. ih707 break down doesnt
tell what 9,10,11 are....is that roller
bearing pull off ,press on....what do
yall think about that 4th an 5th slider
gear....sorry just concerned dont want to
tear up that ta.......dewy

The gear hardening process (causing the blue coloration)tempers the inner tooth and hardens the tooth surface. All as it should be. Any gear that got that hot while in use would be stripped. Jim

Made my day jim,still curious about that otc puller,wish they showed a better pic...look to me like you just take out that bolt washer an lock tab...an that roller bearing would just come off,...dewy

Most of those type bearings in those old tractors the rollers would slide off the race they run on is what the puller is for. IF it just slid on that easy it would turn on the shaft.
