My father made a kids tractor out of what appears to be the same worm gear. it failed as yours did and broke the worm gear into 2 pieces. It was the end of that experiment. No leads or recommendations on that it was 55 years ago. Jim

if you have a bearing shop somewhere around, they can find gears also.
