Sherman combo shift rail oil leak questions.

Hi all. I fixed my previous tranny shift rail leak with a 3/4 Welch plug. Ran the tractor and found oil leaking from the sherman shift rail directly below it. I have another cover that I believe is the "new" style that has longer rail slides that get capped with Welch plugs. Questions....#1 has anyone been able to remove the top cover through the steering box hole? #2 what should I do with the open hole on top of the new cover? Tap it and put in a plug? #3 does that top cover need a paper gasket for spacing or could I seal it with anaerobic sealer? I glued the new 1 when I rebuilt the tranny and expect it will tear when removed. #4 any thoughts on why It would have started to leak or how to stop it before i take it back apart ? No noticable leak before I rebuilt. Cleaned the parts gently and reassembled. I did have a new detent sliding pin made, maybe that pin has scraped the shaft? Tractor is on jack stands and only has ran about 6 hours sitting in the garage partially assembled from a whole machine rebuild. I put 5 gal in the tranny and the oil level is below the bottom bolt hole and the full mark on the dipstick. Pics of the leak using a blacklight

anaerobic sealer can be your friend. Most gaskets were wiped down with oil and installed. Cheaper and generally lasted long enough to get out of the warranty period. As for a spacer, you can determine that upon assy.
