Slatted plow

Just curious. Anybody here ever use a plow like this? I
dont think Ive seen any photos of one on this board.

A couple of old cousins who farmed together here had one. They said in light sand, it would go right through the slats.
 
I used it to build up our terraces for years before I got a bigger tractor and JD moldboard. I always thought the Case did a better, smoother job. But the bigger tools did the job faster.

My FIL sometimes used a whirlwind, but I thought they left it too fluffy and settled too much.
 
We used slat moldboard plows for many years. We have heavy clay ground. They pull better than a solid and scour quicker when starting out for the season. Always had IH plows until 1967 when we bought a 1650 Oliver and semi-mounted plow. That one was a solid moldboard but pulled easy.
 
Have a pair of IH slat bottoms. Bought them in muck country
and was told that they made plowing muck soil easier.
