Did I pay too much for it, gave $50 for it to keep it from being scrapped. Still functional, I realize its been farmerized to pull behind a tractor as the seat is no longer on it. What brand would this thing be and approximate age of it

Looks very similar to it but the wheels on the one I bought are not scalloped out like the one pictured here. Other than that I believe its the same implement

Probably at least a dozen makers of them and names you never heard of. Does it have the toung for a team on it?

I've got a 2 row IHC from the 50's that has only 4 blades on the rotor and shakes the tractor hitch severely. they do really chop tall stalks ,grass ,and small grains. remember it almost destroying 3 pt hitch on Ford Jubilee.

Are the bladwes straight across at an angle? They should be at angle so a part of each blade is on ground at all times. Check yours to see if it could have had the drum the blades mount of set straight instead of on a twist. The blades at angle will get rid of the shakes.

I have one that the frame looks identical to the one you have but the chopper has 8 blades on it and there isn't any pans between each blade. It has IHC markings cast into the major components. They'll chop up something, but you better have your teeth glued in good or you'll loose em from shaking. They were commonly used here to chop up tobacco stalks.
