Vibrating vest

I guess today I will be fitted for a vibrating vest to help my lungs clear. I'm told they work really well to get the crap broken up and out of there. With any luck it just might help me breathe better so I can continue to make hay this year again. According to my latest CT scan I have reoccurring infection in both lungs and have had for the past year. I am currently on a big round of prednisone and this is supposed to help a lot. I sure wish the person that invented cigarettes would have been eliminated before he could invent them (welding for all those years didn't help either). Suppose to wear it 1/2 hour morning and night so we'll see how it goes.

Good luck with it! I understand what you are going though, we had a handicapped son (birth injury) who lived almost 18 years with us, and he had to have "postural drainage and percussion" treatments all his life to keep his chest "clear".

I wonder if he would have benefited from such a device.

I had lung infections for a decade. Would be on a course of antibiotics and clear up....then a week or two later it would be back. This went on for years, half dozen different lung and infectious disease specialist. Both pills and intravenous, where I carried the attached injection device around for weeks, on several occasions. Then the last doctor, said lets try non-stop antibiotics, every day. Seemed to work, so now I'm still doing that, but do blood test every 6 months to be sure no bad side effects related to full time antibiotics. Bronchitis. I have had the chest vibrator, airway clearance device, (Incourage by RespirTech) for several years and now use it seldom, but when I was at my worst, it did by seem to help me clear out congestion.

Ask if you can lay head and shoulders over the edge, crosswise, on a bed to discharge some of the crud. Jim

Wore out,
Are percussion treatments the same as clapping? I got hospitalized with a post-surgery pneumonia about 35 years ago.
Respiratory therapist came in and clapped the back of my ribcage with cupped hands. I thought it helped quite a bit.

I hope the vest helps you, Keith.

prednisone is an amazing drug, but watch for side effects. it does accelerate cataracts. i was on it for a year and a half, had surgery on both eyes .

Thanks a bunch guys for the encouraging words. I had my 2 first 1/2 hour sessions yesterday. The therapist that fitted me said that it will take a few days to see any improvement with the vest so here's hoping

Yes, S.F..

The Children's Hospital folks trained us to use a "resuscitation mask" with medical tape over the oxygen port as a "chest precursor" when he was just a little guy, and larger versions were used as he grew.

I'd never have thought of that. I imagine that worked better than cupped hands.

And sorry to hear of the rough times for your son. When kids are healthy, we take it for granted... and fail to realize what some families go through.

Chronic Asthma and COPD never smoked. Been on Prednisone continuously for over 3 years, The steroids have brought Insulin dependent Diabetes
