Found these in a box of auction treasure.

Not square gauges. They would have to be the same size on both sides of the square to work when you turned the square over.
 
I concur, but that's all I can do. The counter-sunk hole on top and lip on the bottom, indicate they were made to stay put on the edge of something.
 

They attach permanently to a work bench and then are used for holding the sickle bar from a sickle type hay mower, while the sections are sharpened. The sharpening stone is a "VEE" shaped stone, chucked into an electric drill.
 
Could be sickle clamps,but never have saw them used. Still got my Great Grand dads sharpener but the sickle clamps on it. Tried google but got nothin back. Defiantly not shelf brackets. Gonna make a welding gig out of 'em. Thanks for the input.
