Loading a cultipacker

I found a dirt cheap cultipacker online, Its 6 feet wide. Whats the best way to load this in the back of my truck? Current owner doesnt have a loader or any other means of lifting it up other than human power or anything else. What ideas do you guys have?

I am going to suggest a trailer with ramps you can winch it onto. Or a ramp truck. I don't see loading and unloading it without something large enough to lift it. It is not light.

Winch up with a com-long from abeam in building back truck under it and you are goo to go.

Probably the most stupid suggestion in the Universe...................but if you can, take it apart and throw the pieces on the truck. Be a total PITA. Be hard to work that axle out.

The easiest would be a roll back and be done .Otherwise a beam with a rope and pulley or a trailer and ramps.

I bought one once and rolled it on to the trailer and turn it length wise. Ease Pease. Gordy in Mn.

I have always loaded up my tractor on my trailer and put the piece in front of the tractor for the trip home.

Id it is where pictured, take a chainsaw too!
Hook it up to the tractor hitch and drive it all onto the trailer.
Might put tractor just a bit further on to balance.
Or run tractor all the way to front.
Unhitch the culi and then back the tractor up for balance.
Culi disc could be right up against the tractor tires.

I'll bet each and every one of those wheels is loose on the axle and will fall right off. It may be the only way to get it loaded if the OP doesn't want to beg, borrow, or steal a trailer.

From my research, these things weigh around 1000lbs, how much would each wheel weigh? Previous owner said it hasnt been moved since 1965

Maybe 25-40# apiece. Just take the estimated weight, and divide by the number of wheels. I know it's not the best way to do it, but sometimes................

Worst case scenario.........you can't get the axle to slide enough to remove the wheels. I hate these kind of jobs. Used to do a lot of this crap when I didn't have the proper stuff to work with. Was never fun, and sometimes it ended in failure.

Rent a skid steer load it then unload at home and return the skid steer easiest, other than a roll back and wait for them to get there.

talk to a local tow company to send a wrecker out to lift it and set it in your truck. i sent our medium duty out often to unload or load various pieces of equipment or material. be sure the wrecker you hire has a telescoping boom to get the necessary height.

The current owner doesnt have one available unfortunately, from the sounds of it, he seems like maybe a land lord trying to berid of the stuff on the property, there was also what looked like a pull type 3 bottom jd plow in decent shape apart from the paint, a disc, and something else I forget, its also nearly an hour from me

If the owner doesn't have a tractor and there isn't a neighbor that's willing to help, and you really really want it, you'll have to rig up some sort of lifting apparatus. Couple of long 4x4s to make an A-frame, and a come-along. Lift the one end of the packer a couple feet from the end, back the truck underneath. Lay the end on a board so it'll slide into the truck. Set it down, relocate the A-frame to the other, end, lift, back truck underneath.

Kind of looks like a 1930's vintage JD. See if there are any numbers stamped on the ribs of the packing wheels that might lend a clue.
