    Magneto and hydraulic help

Got it, I have spark and with starter spray had brief combustion so timing is ok. On to setting up the new carb, thanks for everyone's help along the way.

    Magneto and hydraulic help

Correct, no power to the coil windings, they are completely removed from the circuit, the body of the magneto right now is simply a housing for the drive shaft to open and close the points. The wires you see in the above picture are from a standard coil, and yes, the thick one is from the...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

Hi @used red MN, I really am just turning the mag into a distributor in a direct drive state. There is no electrical generation required from the mag. As I understand it, and I certainly could be wrong here, going battery positive to coil, coil negative to the points/condenser pole and coil...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

@Rbellucci I spent the first couple of weeks chasing that spark issue on the front end, isolating, grounding etc. Then I discovered the issue with the lack of turning on the drive shaft. On taking apart the linkage, I could see why, that area around the spring was completely siezed. I have...

@rustred - this is from an ebay photo, but this is exactly my magneto... MRD6, thanks

    Magneto and hydraulic help

I think I have found the source of the problem, the impulse spring was completely rusted and seized (partially cleaned in photo). I have to find and new one from someone who ships to Canada, but at least, perhaps a step in the right direction.

    Magneto and hydraulic help

HI Jim, thanks for the response - yes, I think I have. For example, if facing the drive from the back, it turns CW. If I bolt up the mag, it wants to turn CW as I face the drive gear, but fails to turn. Now, if I take the mag off and try and force that same direction, i can't make it turn...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

A new development on the magneto/spark front. I have had that thing on and off like 20 times at this point, but each time I would check for a spark it was all bolted up. Today i tested it without the cap on and found it turns just a bit, then stops - so I need to verify something. The magneto...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

I am beginning to really dislike magnetos. I have disconnected the grounding wire, cleaned the points, dried out the formerly wet cap, set the points at a variety of spacings from .015 through to .020, no spark after each of these. I have tested with plug in and inline spark tester and straight...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

... stupid AI... :) On the upside, aside from a possible miss-match on the carb I ordered, I do not immediately need anything to get this thing running, just have to sort the spark - and that is clearly marked - Bosch 88507 magneto. Thanks for your help Jim

    Magneto and hydraulic help

@Jim.ME I am far from an expert here :) It is possible, in as much as you can truct AI, that what I pictured are actually casting bosses, with a 3 afterwards indicates that it's likely the 240 inline 6, 3.9l. The Autolite 1100, I ordered wouldn't be ideal flow if it were running all six...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

thanks @Jim.ME, AI led me to believe these are usually Ford industrial and sometimes IH blocks to which they added their own heads. From what I can figure, it's likely a Ford 240 block - there are no reinforcing lines on the side, so not a 262; and Magneto on the drivers side. There may be a...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

Primary task is to complete the siding to the peaks - lift rentals are significant, so even if I have to drag it around its a win if I can get the hydraulics working. Next year, I hope to use it to place trusses on the garage I am building. We'll see what other uses it gets from there, when I...

    Magneto and hydraulic help

I am afraid I don't know which engine it is, likely a ford industrial block, but an IH is a possibility - there is no carb currently attached - I have an autolite 1100 on the way though. Here are some more photos:
