    thanks guys for the advice. I am an old tank crewman so figured I would need a tool of some sort. Now I see two ways you guys have recommended so I won't be afraid to pull it apart now. Thanks.

    Is there a special tool to pull the track back together to put in the master pin after I break the track? Or by backing off track tension is there enough slack?

    I must have misunderstood you. I got the impression you had trouble getting the 8 bolts off so you cut and welded the threaded rod on instead. I am glad to hear you were able to take the tensioner off

    As I look at it, it appears that it would be easier to replace the tension bold by removing the sprocket and pulling the bolt out the rear of the spring housing. I would have to cut off that cover over the bolt head and weld that back on later. That appears easier than removing those 8 old...

    PITA? You welded the new threaded rod onto the round plate at the front of the spring housing--is that where you welded it?

    The threaded rod or nuts, or both are stripped on my track adjustment. I bought the parts on ebay. What is the easies way to replace? I see I can take off the spring housing with 8 bolts that have been in there for 50 years. Anything that might be easier or tricks to keep in mind?
