    What's this bolty thing called?

This came off my tractor frame rail, and I know it helps guide implements up against the rail. What is it's real name.

Can you run engine without any oil in trans?

Well, I decided to NOT chance it. Will wait until I can fill the trans. Thanks for the warnings.

Can you run engine without any oil in trans?

My main reason for doing this is to warm up the engine looking for coolant leaks, and not wanting to smoke up the barn. I guess it would be OK then to block the clutch pedal, and warm up the engine (and therefore settle for stinking up the barn). If I block the clutch pedal open, then it's OK...

Can you run engine without any oil in trans?

I want to run the engine on my 400D for about 10 minutes, but I have no oil in the transmission. Reason: I drained most of the oil out to remove the seasonal disconnect plate, which has many cracks around the bolt holes, causing continuous leaks, so I am having a new plate made. Will it...

    All tractors leak?

I'm glad I'm not the only one with leaks. Just today I found the following leaks: Thermostat housing gasket leak, front timing cover leak, hydraulic filter gasket leak, and "U" tube to priority valve leak. The thermostat housing is a double repeat offender. I used permatex black on it this...

Blankety blank Rear Main Oil Seal--Part 2

It's leaking out the little drain tube on the bottom side of the pump. I've been warned to not plug it by Iowa Injection, as the pump is designed to leak out the bottom. Maybe leak isn't the right word, but the pump is designed to discharge some fuel. Iowa says 12 drops per minute is OK, but...

Blankety blank Rear Main Oil Seal--Part 2

I'm pretty happy. That seal that was leaking isn't leaking any more. I put 3 hours on it yesterday pulling various things around to break in the rebuilt motor, and not a single hint of oil was coming from the seal area. It must have healed itself following the first 2 hours of breaking-in the...

Sediment Bowl Fuel Shut off packing. What to use????

I took my leaky shutoff valve apart and put a rubber o-ring between the stem and cap that mounts the stem to the body. So far, no leaks, and if it does, another o-ring, I guess.

Blankety blank Rear Main Oil Seal

Yes, they installed the little odd shaped gaskets on both ends of the retainer, that sort of held the rubber seals between two fingers of the odd shaped gaskets. Yes, the rubber seals had metal in them. They were very stiff and very hard to install. I've talked to the shop about it (they are...

Anybody use one of those nib files? It's a square little file which is supposed to remove runs and nibs.

Blankety blank Rear Main Oil Seal

It's a cast retainer, and when I checked the numbers on it the second time, it correlated to a rubber seal, as I remember. It is just about impossible to get the rubber seal in that narrow opening. Heck, even the felt seal was hard to put in there, AND remove. The shop said the retainer was...

Blankety blank Rear Main Oil Seal

Well, I was high with expectation, but ---. History -- I have changed the rear main seal all by myself 3 times. Once, felt. Next, found out that the crank doesn't have the spiral groove, so went with the pricey rubber. Munched it up pretty good trying to install, but mashed it in there...

    Rebuilt Engine and Oil

You guys are right. I just talked to the guy that rebuilt the engine, and he said NO. Told me to use Rotella 15-40, as suggested by glennster. He said after break-in, run what you want (I was telling him 30W). Guess I'll just stick with 15-40. Thanks everyone.
