    44-6 rear axle

If it has a mechanical lift then the pto will have to be removed first.

    44-6 rear axle

The top cover over bull gears will need to be removed in order to remove large cotterpins in axle. The pins retain the bull gear onto axle. Remove the outer bearing cap bolts and axle can be removed without removing the housing.

    black diamond truck head

The tractor head has a better port design with the tilted valves and will flow better. The truck head will give you more compression but that is all.

The carb will work if you can adjust it to have good throttle response. A carb that is to large will cause a dead spot when you give it throttle. I would try it if you already have the carb on the shelf. If you have to buy it then just get the right one. This carb shouldn't be hard to find.

Machining Farmall 300 head... How much is too much?

Just putting the 300 head on will raise the compression. I would mill head just enough to make it straight.

    44 M-H Serial Number Help

Wayne's reply is correct. The lps built in 52 where serial numbered 1001-1460. Then in 53 all 44 models, (std, butane, diesel, kerosene, etc) where grouped together in serial numbers 43,700-47,060. This would make this tractor a 53 l.p. model.

Just lower the price, don't scrap it. Scrap is not worth much now anyway.

    Massey Harris 44 special

The specials did not have factory p/s. The unit has to be dealer installed. The only massey harris models to have factory p/s would be 444,333,555,model 50, and workbull series. That serial number would make it number 14 from the start of 44 special production.

    MASSEY HARRIS 555 TRACTOR

I knew a guy that farmed with a 55 diesel for years without any trouble. The tractor is in a guys collection in Ohio and is still going. The jd382 really can't be compared to a detroit. The Detroit is newer and had a little more horsepower. The 382 will last a long time if you take care of it.
