    Could there be THAT much water in my hydraulic fluid?

    I changed the fluid on my neighbors 650 this spring I'd say over a gallon of water came out of the transmission and the rear end (each). As for the hydraulic fluid, there was no fluid nor water as the water in the sump froze over the winter and blew out the gasket. -Dave

    Ford 640 jumps out of 1st gear

    I'm by far a transmission expert but it appears (to me) that part #48 'spring' and #49 'ball bearing' push into the detent on part #47 'rod' which in turn locks the shift lever. I'd open the cover and have a look. If this were a 650 (5-speed) I'd say check for a worn plunger ...

    Makes one wonder what (crap) material is being used in the shutoff valves from the factory if Nitril (Buna-N) is working fine for you for 10 years ............

    Do you have access to a cooling system pressure tester? It makes finding leaks much easier as it can be used when the engine is cool and not running. -Dave
