    That worked. I removed the long bolt and the two lift check assemblies and did have some worn o-rings and backer washers. I was able to replace the top o-rings on both assemblies.     Just to follow up. The fuel tank I ordered through YT's parts website for a JD 1020 does fit my 300. On the 300, I did have to remove the top piece of the nose with the four big bolts.     Thanks guys! Figuring out JD parts website is beyond my abilities. I couldn't even find parts for a 1020. I just pulled the trigger on the one from the link above. SamV I'll let you know soon if it fits correctly or not.

    In the yt parts section, I don't see a fuel tank available for a john deere 300 industrial but I do see a diesel tank for a JD 1020. Is that the same fuel tank?     OT—John Deere Lawnmower hood disintegrated.

    Under a barn and out of the sunlight. Albeit, the day it feel apart it was about 30° outside but for the most part, it's been keep under tin all it's life. I grew up with high regards of that running deer logo. ...that's changing. :(

    OT—John Deere Lawnmower hood disintegrated.

    This past weekend I removed the already broken hood from my lawnmower, 10 year old John Deere gtx and the plastic hood literally feel apart in my hands. Before it was over all of the hood fit into a 5 gallon bucket. Things sure aren't what they use to be.
