    Self Propelled Corn Picker

I was wondering what make of Corn picker this is? Date on the picture is August 1956 so I assume it was pretty new and exciting since some family members were taking it for rides. My memories of it in the late 50's or 1960's was that it was not in use anymore and parked out with other old...

1973 165 Perkins, blown head gasket

Engine was rebuilt last year and only has 35 hours on it. All parts came from reliance. I have the tractor tore down, I noticed my liners are below the surface of the block. Reliance makes .005 shims to go under the flange on the liners. I have to put new liners in anyway due finding some...

1973 MF 165 Perkins Diesel blow by

I have a 1973 165 Perkins. It is pouring oil out the front of the engine, from up high. Looks like from behind the water pump. It is also blowing a lot of smoke, out the crank case vent. I hear a slight ticking noise when I start it cold, then it goes away after it warms up. Could a blown head...

    Installing stand pipe

I used Trans Gel, used for building automatic transmissions, no go. I am going to do some troubleshooting tomorrow. I notice today that my response lever does not seem to be doing anything. Do you put the pipe in the pump, before you put the cover back on? Or do you put the cover on then...

Steering wanders on the street 165

I disabled the power steering by turning in the set screw all the way to get the slack out of the steering and was able to get the tractor back home. It helped a lot but still wandered a little. What I found was the splines on the steering shaft are loose on the arm that slides over them. I took...

    Installing stand pipe

My 165 was not lifting my finish mower. Long story short, my pump was trashed. It had a cracked piston and some of the rings were broke. I installed a new pump and tried to install a new stand pipe but could not get the spiral backing rings to go in their holes without catching. Wondering if...

Steering wanders on the street 165

I will measure Toe, and check the linkage to the steering cylinder. I remember it having some wear. the bad thing is my property is about 6-7 miles from my house, and I have to drive it on the road to get it home to work on it. Right now it is a little dangerous to drive on the street. I may...

Steering wanders on the street 165

I have 35 pounds in the fronts, and 20 in the rears. As far as toe, I never moved the front tires when I disconnected the old tie rods. I adjusted the new to fit right back like it was, assuming it was right. I know thats not the right answer :) I looked up Toe adjustment in my service...

Steering wanders on the street 165

I just got done replacing the bushings in the frame, tie rods and drag link. The steering arm was wore, so we welded it up and machined it back down to size. Everything is tight. I also rebuilt the steering cylinder. Now it almost seems worse on the road than it did with all the loose parts...
