    Vertical Exhaust

I am swapping to a vertical stack. I noticed the hydraulic plumbing was on exhaust pipe and hydraulic fluid was heating up artificially. Tree farm has brush high enough to make ignition possible too. I will fabricate a spark arrestor with smallest hardware clothe I can find. Use a...

Finally slapped some paint on the 8N

I just purchased 8n and am fighting with painted threads. Its like blue loctite. Tape off the threads and areas not wanting paint. Grease fittings to R pins. I've been using Ether and brass wire brush to the threads and other painted fittings. Prep. 1st.

    Drained the transmission/differential fluid

Didn't think about that. I noticed the starter switch was bypassed too and a funky fix. Didn't see what was obvious. Lucky to have roofing material for metal roofs and can wrap shifter and starter with to seal.

    My new 1947 8n13325

    Splitter

Looking at fabricating a tractor splitter for my new 1947 8n tractor. Release bearing is noisy when depressed and quite once peddle is pressed. Notice the retail price is ridiculous for a splitter. $700 to start. Angle iron for track. Jack stands fabricated with wheels and a platform for tractor.

    Drained the transmission/differential fluid

20 in winter 90 in summer Sits for extended periods too. Synthetic oils great against oxidation from atmospheric moisture. Tree farmer and this is a skidder/hauler. FYI Amsoil independent dealer since 1976. Synthetic oil in everything: gasoline, diesel and propane. 2 stroke and 4 stroke.

    Can't be good

Inspection cover under differential has hydraulic pipe protruding from it and riding against the exhaust pipe. Not worried since I am changing it to a vertical stack. Tree farm has high brush that is flammable with hot exhaust. Thinking this tractor had a leader. Pipes capped off everywhere.

Changed All The 8N Fluids, Home Testing Viscosity

I just purchased 8n13325 and started restoring to working condition. just did the same thing. Changed the hydraulic/transmission fluid. Oil has changed and iso numbers and viscosity are 2 different methods of usage. I use a full synthetic oil made by Amsoil that is 10W-30. My 45 years...

    Drained the transmission/differential fluid

AAGH!!! Well that was dark chocolate milkshake. Some water evident at the end of fluid. Small white droplets of water, nothing major. Atmosphere most likely. Removing all the inspection cover and doing a gasket swap from filler plug to drain plug. Going to buy cheap high detergent oil to...
