    8N bogs down

Thank you, it's definitely worth a try! I'm still a little unsure where exactly to drill the third hole. I'll have to go back and study the photos someone sent earlier.

    8N bogs down

I've gotten the old gal running!!! One final thing, it won't run uphill going forward, but has no trouble in reverse. I have seen this issue on youtube, junky carb! I will replace the carb with a US built unit and that should cure it! Thanks again for all the advise, you guys rock!

    8N bogs down

I've ben thinking about rebuilding the old carb. Very interesting about how poorly the new ones are made/missing holes... You guys have convinced me! At any rate, it will be good practice!! Look forward to the extra thread, thanks Soaked!

    8N bogs down

Update! I removed and reset the points and condenser. Made sure the leads are correct. Tractor starts well and runs well on flat ground. However!!! as soon as I tried to go up a gentle incline, it struggles again. I haven't tried reversing up an incline to see if it's the floats, I will leave...

    8N bogs down

Not much of an update... I swapped 3 and 4 and it seemed to make a difference until the engine got hot, then back to the same nonsense! plugs look a bit wet, so not firing well. Maybe the battery is getting a bit low??? I've removed the distributer and re-adjusted the points, the gap was WAY too...

    8N bogs down

Thanks, everyone! Looks like I have my weekend planned out for me, lol! I think I will re-check all the electrical first. Hopefully I've messed up and got some leads crossed over. That would be a nice easy fix!

    8N bogs down

Thank you everyone for the advise so far. I did the points a while back and set them as accurately as I possibly could - that's not to say they are correct! I tried using the old carb and got the same results. I didn't rebuild the carb, just gave it a really good clean. I will order a rebuild...

    8N bogs down

Thanks, Jimmydog! I have already removed and resurfaced the exhaust manifold and carb flange. New gaskets throughout. Reinstalled with muffler cement to ensure an airtight fit. (there was some pitting on the block) But definitely worth re-checking. Thanks

    8N bogs down

Good day All. Newbie here, also not a mechanic! Back story: Was gifted a 1948 8n that had been used and then left standing in a field for thirty years! I have replaced the battery, distributer, coil and leads. New plugs and new wiring. I have also replaced the carb, sediment bowl and governor...
