Definitely not a Ford, as it has longitudinal semi-elliptic springs front and rear.

    O.T - Inverted Aero engine

Inverted aero engines were quite common until the 1940s. Incidentally, in steam engine practice an inverted engine would refer to one with the cylinder above the crankshaft, while with internal combustion engines the opposite holds true.

Question, long stroke low RPM vs high RPM engines

For the same displacement, a long-stroke engine will produce its maximum torque at a lower RPM. As for bearing life, all else being equal, the long-stroke should have a slight benefit, as well.

    Picture for Today

No, it is offset so much so that it can ride in the furrow while the rear wheels are riding on level ground.

    IH advertisment

Early to mid-1920s. Very well built little trucks, those. I had a chance to check one out real close at a fair some years ago, if I could find the pictures I could show some details.

    why is the axle weak?

Not true, there were front-end loaders available in the 1920s, including ones specifically designed for the early Fordsons. Did not have hydraulics though, it was cables and winches those days. For one example, look for Lessmann loaders in the Vintage Ads section on the left under Galleries.

Another Orange tractor? Can you identify?

Definitely not an L, as that model had the engine mounted in-line. As this is a cross-motor tractor, it is 1929 or earlier.

    The Vikings

There was also an upmarket car made by Oldsmobile in the late 1920s called Viking. But to make this thread tractor-related, Bolinder-Munktell made some fine tractors back in the day in the former Viking land of Sweden.

    tractors and trucks

samn40, I have a couple of questions. Is that a Massey-Harris General Purpose tractor on the car-hauler in the first picture? What make are the two lorries in the third picture? The one in the foreground has a cab used by a number of different manufacturers. Being in Scotland, it could be an Albion.

    Any other Canadians?

Grand Forks, BC. 1947 2N and 1962 IH B275 Diesel.

    First N you ever drove?

A 1947 2N that I got going after it sat outdoors for 20 years. I still have it, it is my garden and utility tractor now, the heavier-duty work around the farm is done by an IH B275 Diesel.
