    Our farm’s new horse

For an apples to apples comparison: the engine HP of the Versy is 280 vs roughly 210 for the 2470 to give a relative comparison between the two. Most Versatile do not have pto so the pto hp was seldom quoted. Versatiles are common here in Alberta. Transmissions will be a 12 speed manual...

    Another cold day.

Not far from you Rustred. Winter can screw off anytime. Sick of it already. Plowed more snow in the last two weeks than all of last winter.

    IH 225 Hay Cutter Haybine

Buddy used to have one. I believe it had a 4 cyl IH gas engine on it. It was worn out and he was not able to cut much hay with it. 10' width of cut. Not sure what he did with it as it is not around any more. I ran the other haybine which was a NH 114.

    Lost tractor

F18 has to be pretty old by now so likely not worth salvage especially if it is deep.

    crab of the day

Yes I hate the plastic rubber that we have now as well. Since we get real winter here regularly, it is a niusense in the cold but I suspect that natural rubber is very expensive now and that is why it is used. Can't get real rubber boots any more either. Now you have to get the more...

    Silo Saturation

Wonder if any of those are still in use? That that yard site with the Herd King might still use the stave. There are a few silos here in Alberta and I check out any that I see to see if any are still used. I saw one 20 x 90 Harvestore being filled when I passed by otherwise out of 100 or so...

Question on Abandoned properties Canada and upper western states.

The biggest factor that drove farm consolidation into overdrive was zero percent interest. This made it so that only the BTO's can purchase any land that comes from sale. The easiest way to purchase high priced land is to refinance your existing land base using the new equity from the last...

    Agco gt75 door

Those tractors were made by SAME, the parent of Duetz Fahr these days. There likely are some equivalent models out there.

    Silo for Saturday

That one was sizable in its day. Looks to be 14 x 60. More of these silos would be in use today if ring drive unloaders had been on the scene sooner. I would not want to fight with a pack drive.

Case 770 gas to diesel swap

Early W14 wheel loaders used the turbo 336.

Looking for advise on tractor purchase

When looking for my first and only tractor, my priorities are loader and 4 wd. Never a loader tractor without 4 wd. The best value in your list is likely the Kubota but the market saw that and it is likely sold. I would then look at the IH 585 but wonder if that price is a bit negotiable...

New to Hay Baling and need advice!

If the 340 is a diesel and in better condition, I would get that one. My Dad ran a IH 484 with a loader baling with a NH 273 and a thrower wagon on it when I was a lad. 40 hp is plenty for a sickle bar haybine and baler that is not towing a wagon. Have fun haying.

    Best 4wd 45hp tractor from 1980s era

The best 45hp fwd loader tractor is the one that is available. If the market for that is anything like here, it is like finding a unicorn. I would never have a loader tractor on a 2 wd. My loader tractor is a NH 7635 4wd. That is a FIAT tractor painted blue and it has been very good to...

    Lead-acid battery prices

Just bought 2 new ones from my local AGCO dealer for $120 Cdn + core exchange last week. Cheaper than the smaller one that fits my wife's car.

Snowed In at Work, but that Didn't Stop Me!!

We get entertained when it is cold down south. It is in the 'single digits'. Oh no. Two weeks ago it was -50 here (central AB with wind chill) and it was not as bad as I had thought it was going to be. Fortunately, it did warm up with it being around freezing for the high the past couple days.
