4020 Hydraulic Return Line Tee Check Valve Direction

I have a late SN 4020 (SN 265510R). I've gotten confused about the direction of the tee check valve assembly that goes between the return line, the oil cooler, and the oil reservoir. The JD parts website diagram shows the ball on the side with the cooler (I've circled it in yellow) which means...

4020 Hydraulic Coupler to Dampener Studs Question

Correct. This is for the dampener pulley side. I've attached a better picture of the actual ones I have. The longer one on top, that still has the rubber bushing, is my original. The threaded hole in the dampener pulley stripped out, but its the deeper part of the threaded hole. The area of the...

4020 Hydraulic Coupler to Dampener Studs Question

I was reassembling my dampener and installed the two allen bolt-head screws that match up with the coupler. The manual refers to them as "pump drive special screws"... I have a late serial number 4020, so it uses the screws with the deeper threads. It's the two on the right in the attached...

PTO Clutch Valve Seals - Late 4020

I looked at that diagram. I'm a little confused as to which o-ring should be doubled? And I assume that's to help with the external leaking. Any internal leaking can only be fixed by a new housing and internal parts? Thanks.

PTO Clutch Valve Seals - Late 4020

I am trying to find a PTO clutch valve seal kit (or individual seals) for a 1972 4020. It is leaking externally, and I also suspect it's leaking internally as well. The PTO clutch valve housing gets noticeably warmer than anything else, very hot to the touch after a half hour or so. The...

Hydraulic plumbing question, MF 40 Industrial, MF52 back

I think it is a 34. When I got it, it had the same style of loader valve on it as the one I installed. That one had been damaged, so I bought basically the same exact one and installed it exactly the same way. I don't know how long the previous owner had that valve on it, or whether the backhoe...

Hydraulic plumbing question, MF 40 Industrial, MF52 back

I have yet another question about this 40 Industrial and its 52 backhoe. I have this Summit loader valve https://summit-hydraulics.com/product/monoblock-hydraulic-directional-control-valve-2-spool-21-gpm/ and it has on it both a tank (T) port and a (N) port for power beyond. My backhoe is...

Industrial 40 Stabilizer Ram Cracked Wide Open!

I drained it. It did have water in the oil, but didn't seem like a huge amount. It was mixed into the oil, didn't come out as water. I don't know if it was enough water to have damaged the cylinder or not. We had a couple of really cold 8-12F days back in December.

    Question about hydraulic pressure gauges

Hi. I need to test the hydraulic pressure of my Massey Ferguson Industrial 40. All of the gauges I see have a male 1/4" NPT fitting, and I know that the outlets on my loader valve are all #10 SAE o-ring (7/8"-14). I'm not very good with all the hydraulics fittings. Is there such a thing as a...

Industrial 40 Stabilizer Ram Cracked Wide Open!

I don't know why I put ram, I couldn't change it after posting. Thank you all for your help. I will check the pressure as I know that the caps on the loader valves were cracked when I bought it, most of the hoses had been recently replaced, and the swing motor had apparently recently began...

Industrial 40 Stabilizer Ram Cracked Wide Open!

Hey guys. I really need some advice here. I have this Industrial 40, with a model 52 backhoe. Today, I cranked it up, drove a little ways and the left hand stabilizer arm was a bit low so I throttled up, and went to raise the stabilizer. When I did that, I heard a loud pop and was covered in...

Industrial 40 Stabilizer Ram Cracked Wide Open!

Sorry, this double posted. Someone remove this if you can. Hey guys. I really need some advice here. I have this Industrial 40, with a model 32 backhoe. Today, I cranked it up, drove a little ways and the left hand stabilizer arm was a bit low so I throttled up, and went to raise the...

Transmission oil cooler line question (40 Industrial)

The outside diameter seems to be 3/8". I'm never good keeping up with fittings sizes. But our local hydraulic shop is over an hour away in the wrong direction from everything else, so I'm trying to avoid it as much as possible. Although I don't think the flaring toolkit I have is made for...

Transmission oil cooler line question (40 Industrial)

I have a couple questions about the oil cooler lines coming from an instant reverse transmission, on a 40 Industrial. The end of the line is broken, and the previous owner just tightened it down without a flare. It obviously leaks a lot. I want to flare it, but I'm not sure if this is a US or...
