    South Bend Lathe

That looks like a South Bend Heavy 10. It's a very popular lathe with gunsmiths because it's got an 1-3/8" hole through the spindle. Perfect for barrel work.

    JD 310C Batteries

I'm just curious, are dual batteries primarily for cold weather conditions? I've got a 310C that's only got one battery and only room in the battery case for one. I don't think it ever had dual batteries. Greg

    work boots

I live near Mountain City, just a few minutes from this place. It's a small business. Just a few employees. My son has a pair of their boots and thinks they're great. Mountain City used to have a large Timberland boot plant before it moved offshore. I think these are some of the former factory...

    steering a 450 Case dozer

I think the D series was a front end loader rather than a dozer. 1970's probably. Greg

    steering a 450 Case dozer

I can't be a lot of help, but yes, it should turn. That's one of the advantages to the Case torque convertor drive is power to both tracks at once to be able to make "power" turns. The 450B uses the Case 188 and 207 engines, the same as the 580 backhoes. The 450C uses the Case/Cummins 4-390...

    loading dozer on trailer

I just bought a Case 550E dozer. I"ve got a 12 ton trailer I"ve been using for my excavator that I"d like to also use for the dozer. The trailer has steel ramps with angle iron cross pieces, ladder style. Will the dozer slide on the ramps? Do most people add wood to them? The trailer has a...

    580C backhoe steering problem

Well, it turns out that the spool in the steering valve was sticking. After taking it apart and putting it back together 3 times, we found an instruction manual on the internet that explained how to time it. Fourth time, with instructions, was a charm. All works as it should, now. Probably never...

    580C backhoe steering problem

Thanks for the sketch, AJ. At the valve end, they are steel lines and all clamped in place. It wouldn't be possible to cross them without removing them from the clamps, which we haven't. I'll take another look at the cylinder end. They are hoses at that end, but pretty sure they went back...

    580C backhoe steering problem

We"ve got an early eighties model 580C. The seal on the top of the steering valve started leaking and it pumped oil up through the steering column. We replaced the seal with an OEM Case part and did nothing else to the valve. After reinstalling the valve, the wheels pull all of the way to the...
