    OT - More CL fun

I wonder if the price includes both 2N's and the well maintained pickup in the background? Nahhh, probably still about 2x more than it should be!

    Starting to suspect bad coil

I used two sockets. One larger than the curved part of the bushing housing, and one as close to the diameter of the bushing as possible. There are probably better ways to do it, but that's what I had on hand. I didn't have to tap too hard, and the bushings started to slide out. When...

    Starting to suspect bad coil

Sounds like you have the same problem I recently had with a 6V, front dizzy. The first day I had the tractor I mowed about 7 Hrs then it sounded like an old "Johnny Popper" with a muffler. After I pulled away from the weeds and took the load off, it ran fine. After I shut it off it wouldn't...

    voltage/amp tester

From the land of "almost good enough" this meter at Harbor Freight looks like it'll do the job. Includes 10A current range which would be somewhat useful for checking coil current. http://www.harborfreight.com/lcd-automotive-multimeter-with-tachometer-kit-95670.html Ron

    CASE 430

I had the same problem. I let the tractor set for a couple of days and the clutch was stuck. Of course, I didn't come to the forum for advice first so I "thunk up" my own solution. Read the comments I got back after posting my solution. Here's the thread to my post...

Weak spark and hard to start

Thanks for the help. It now starts on the 2nd rrumpah and is hitting on all 4! I took it to the field and mowed for about an hour and everything seems fine. Turns out, I had 2 problems. 1. The coil was bad. The first indication was the low resistance measurement, the 2nd was the...

8N new dist cap rotor - misfire at higher rpm

BJ-WI: I just tried to install a coil purchased from this site and believe the tab from the coil to the distributor cap was not making good (or any) contact. Do you routinely bend that tab in an effort to make good contact? (I got the tractor running by taking the coil from my other 8N.) Ron

Ford spec 134, 134b/c/d hydraulic fluid-- I'm confused!

My '95 ford 2120 specifies Ford Spec 134 hydraulic fluid. As I look at fluids at NAPA, O'Reilly and Orschlein's, the fluids state "meets Ford 134b/c or 134D. I've spent quite a bit of time searching and can't find source documents. Is there a creditable document which explains the...

Vacuum at exhaust manifold '48 8N

I have a '48 8N and had the same kind of problem, including back firing while trying to start. Trying everything you've done so-far. I finally took off the valve covers and noticed #1 exhaust valve stuck open. The covers are easy to remove and you can see the valve action while you're turning...

    ford 2120 loader rating

Thanks. I searched for a couple of hours. Must be I didn't read close enough. Thanks for your effort. Ron

    ford 2120 loader rating

I just bought a 2120 with 7109 loader and don't have the manuals yet. Does anyone know the lifting/loading capacity of the 7109 loader?

Weak spark and hard to start

Dell: Thanks. I'll re-check the coil resistance. Plug wires are new yesterday (discovered #1 was broken.) Points were checked yesterday (.015). Plug wires were installed to the right ports on the dizzy cap. I also swapped the coil from a good starting '48 8N, 12V, assuming the coil would...

Weak spark and hard to start

1949 (?) 8N Front Distributor, 6V is hard to start when cold and impossible to start when it's warmed up. I've read on this forum, fuel, air, spark. When I checked the spark I used a spare spark plug (.025) and no spark... but (there's always a but) I was getting a shock holding the wire. Not...
