    JD A Absorbing Water

Thanks everyone. I will worry less, drain more!

    JD A Absorbing Water

Nope, it's outside 365 days a year. I did try to put a rubber boot around all the levers, but to no avail.

    JD A Absorbing Water

I use my late 40's A for planting and cultivating popcorn. Every year, though, it seems to absorb water from somewhere. Both the engine, and transmission, will dribble water from the drain plugs for a few minutes when I crack them in the spring. Sure, the engine could be a head gasket, my...

    JD AN Front Tire Options

My 9.00-10 3-rib is about shot. There're not many options out there. Would a 7.50-10 work, or would that be plain stupid? I'd like to keep the 3-rib, but might have to go with something boring like a multi-rib. This post was edited by bbeardb on 05/31/2023 at 07:05 pm.

    JD A General Running Questions

This was from awhile ago, but 6th gear power issue was due to a fouled spark plug. I cleaned it up today and the A ran like a champ. I forgot what it sounded like when running well. I'll have to take a peak at those plugs more often.

    JD A General Running Questions

Sorry, I typed too much. How much throttle should I be using when working? Should it be simple to get started in 6th gear, and should it have enough power to pull up a slight, paved incline?

    JD A General Running Questions

I have some basic questions about how the A should run when working the field. Being my first tractor ever, I have no reference for which to compare it. Mine is a 46/47, SN 574xxx. When working under load (planting, cultivating, ditching) how much throttle should I use? While planting...

    Cyclo Power Requirements

I didn't think about the drum not spinning when clutching and what that might do. The auxiliary motor is a neat idea! I'd probably deal with the dead spots in some other fashion, longer lead in or something, but I like the ingenuity for sure. I have noticed pull type planters are rare, but...

    Cyclo Power Requirements

Good point! Colorado, near Brighton or an hour from Greeley if that helps for reference.

    Cyclo Power Requirements

Would a JD A be able to pull a PTO powered, 4-row, Case IH Cyclo planter? Assume well tilled, flat ground, stock running JD A. I'm sure an A can pull 4-row planters in general, but I'm not sure how much power the Cyclo needs from the PTO. Also, if anyone has a 4-row pull type planter they...

    ABG Cultivator Mounting

I quickly attached my custom lift mount and took these poor pictures I wanted to share. I think this is going to work out. I’ll get some shorter pins. And no mocking the welds. It’s my first time welding. (I think I’ll ignore the upper bracket issue for now and see how it goes with a light...

    Smoking Generator

A brief update and thank you to everyone. I removed the yellow wire and so far so good. Still haven’t tried to start it though. Things take me awhile as the tractor is in another town...

1951 John Deere Model A Generator Issue

Old thread, but reaching out to James Howell. Where did you connect L from the regulator? I'm having a problem. Can be seen here: https://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?p=8948857

    ABG Cultivator Mounting

I'll look again, I was going through the book earlier today and didn't see that. The book is all over the place though. They show the quickattach button, rods posted to the pedestal, and my same bracket, but don't mention how my bracket is to be used.

    Smoking Generator

Thanks. The light switch I have is the kind that turns lights on/off and increases charge rate. Sounds like I should first disconnect L altogether and see what that does, and if that doesn't do it, replace the wire and connect to either FLD on the regulatory or directly to F on the generator...
