    drive shaft seal replacement

My 1950 Case VAC serial no. 5456226 is leaking hydraulic oil from the torque tube into the transmission. It appears be the main drive shaft seal(VT-4970) that is the problem. Do I have to split the tractor to replace that seal or can I access it through the shift lever cover on top. Any help...

VAC Torque Tube PTO Shaft Seal

It looks like we are conflating our seals. One is on the hydraulic pump shaft and the other is on the main drive shaft at the front of the transmission. The topic heading, VAC Torque Tube PTO Shaft Seal seems to be referring to the one in the tranny.

VAC Torque Tube PTO Shaft Seal

I replaced that one on the hydraulic pump shaft about 5 years ago and it's been working fine ever since. What happens is that after the seal wears away, the garter spring wears a groove in the shaft and allows even more hydraulic oil to leak into the crankcase. I was able to fix that with a...

VAC Torque Tube PTO Shaft Seal

I have a 1950 VAC Case with the same issue (hydraulic oil from the torque tube leaking into the transmission-diff. case). In looking at the parts diagram, it looks like we could access that seal by removing the shifter mechanism and removing the PTO in order to slide the " main drive shaft"...

    VAC Case leather piston seal

I've had my VAC for a long time (47 years) and just kept adding oil to the torque tube, too. Never payed attention to where it might be going other than there must be a leak some place. My brakes never held very good so about 4 years ago I decided to redo the brakes. I'm retired now and have the...

    VAC Case leather piston seal

Yes, I checked that over and it's working. What got me started on this is it looked like oil from the torque tube was ending up in the differential and someone said it might be from the rock shaft piston. Well the leather seal surely needed replacing but I'm suspecting the oil migration might be...

    VAC Case leather piston seal

You were right on. I tried two tractor dealers, one was the local "Case-IH" dealer and a longtime hydraulic repair shop. I got no help from them. I then tried another hydraulic shop and he said,"Oh sure we can get you one". It took a little coaxing to get it started in the bore but I made a...

    VAC Case leather piston seal

My 1950 Case VAC has a leather seal on the Rock Shaft piston that needs replacing. Anyone know where I could get one? Also, has anyone ever tried taking that piston to a machinist to cut o-ring grooves in it and converting it to said o-rings? Thanks!

    VAC Case hard steering

Thanks, I'll try that on the steering. My next issue is hydraulic oil leaking from the torque tube into the differential. Not looking forward to splitting the tractor and replacing that oil retainer and probably the bearing next to it. Pretty big job! I assume there are no other options except...

    VAC Case hard steering

I just cleaned and relubed everything and put it back together. Nothing looked worn. It'll probably just be hard steering. It also looks like I have hydraulic oil leaking from the torque tube into the differential. I'm not looking forward to splitting the tractor to replace part no. VT2052 Oil...

    VAC Case hard steering

I've had my 1950 VAC Case for 47 of its 73 years and I love it. When I bought it from my uncle he thought it might be steering hard because he had a loader on for a long time. {Narrow front end}. I replaced the front pedestal bearings but that didn't seem to help. So I disassembled the worm and...

    Case VAC brakes

Thanks for your help! I bought this tractor from my uncle in 1976. It was built the same year I was born. I use it for plowing snow and I have a two bottom mounted plow and a cultivator for gardening.Outside of the usual maintenance stuff I've never had a speck of trouble with it. Except the...

    Case VAC brakes

I'm rebuilding the disc type brakes on my 1950 Case VAC but I don't know the proper way to adjust them when they're done. I measured and recorded the adjusting screw heights before disassembly so I have some idea where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
