    Hawk Built roller

RRLund, you are correct. My grandpa got burned terribly and was unable to handle square bales, so bought a Hawk Bilt…then after a few years, that Hesston (5400, I believe) with those teeth on the belts that looked like Milo guard wires. Nobody thought it’d be possible to go backwards from that...

    Continental Belton Post Hole Digger

Yes, that plunger & clutch mechanism moves freely. I can snap it over center by hand, but takes some effort. It really seems like the cable might be too long. Under the springs (one inside the other) is a washer brazed onto the cable. Was that original setup?

    Continental Belton Post Hole Digger

New owner of a Continental Belton Model C post hole digger. Been sitting outside for years and got everything freed up and working, mostly. When I trip it to raise, it winds up the cable, but seems to stop about 1-1.5 short of catching on the hood up latch. Havent tried it under pto powerjust...

    Farmall 656 Floor Pan Removal

Thanks Pete! Glad to know its doable w/o tearing more stuff apart. I like the idea of removing those front remote tubes, but they are handy for a loader. You are a wealth of knowledge!

    Farmall 656 Floor Pan Removal

Only other 656 I ever took the floor pan out of had about an inch trimmed off the right rear corner. Always wondered why until tonight. Got some wiring underneath I need to get at, so its got to come off. Got all the bolts out and absolutely cannot get that darn thing forward enough to get the...

    Farmall 656 gas exhaust manifold

Stopped at local IH dealer tonight. They tell me the exhaust manifold for my gas 656 is obsolete. Mine has broken off an ear and is cracked in several places. I see several places listing aftermarket ones but wondering about fitment and quality. Anyone got any wisdom to share

    Gehl HL4400 hydraulic oil

Time for a change of hyd oil in this old thing. Manual calls for Type F, and that appears to be what's in it...it's red anyhow. Never added any in the 5 years I've had it. Wondering about using something else but also wondering what this may do to hydrostat pump & motors. Any reccomendations?

    Farmhand Bale Sled

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like this will be a big help to me. It's pretty much a 2 man operation, with my 77 year old dad and I. I'm 45 and with 7 & 9 year old boys, don't have much time. Always looking for ways to make this easier, and would love to grow my boys into a small...

    Farmhand Bale Sled

Been looking for a way to speed up square baling. Bale a lot of smaller patches where I don't have room to pull a wagon. Bought this Farmhand bale sled to try. It pulls behind baler and is tripped manually leaving about 6-8 bales in a bunch. Looks like I need to straighten the rods the bales...

    Used baler belts

Thank guys. This 605 is shooooot! Bearings out everywhere, gate cylinder mounts all cracked out, hitch has been ripped off and rewelded. Like my 4x5 bale size for my operation, so the 605 as a user isn't an option. It's bad enough I can't believe anyone put new belts on it.

    Used baler belts

Belts on my old 504G are pretty well shot, but I only do about 40 bales a year with it. Works ok, but the outer left one doesn't track right and has some bad tears. Neighbor has a 605G with fairly new belts that's headed for the iron man since the gearbox scattered. Can probably get belts...

    Does plastic twine stretch?

they sure didn't stretch much at all. 1/4-3/8" at most. Got to be shrinking hay.

    Does plastic twine stretch?

doing a little scientific testing. Got an IH suitcase weight suspended from my cherry picker by a doubled up strand of twine. Will measure stretch after 24 hours.

    Narrowing up Farmall 655

    Does plastic twine stretch?

Been running 9000' sisal in my old Oliver 620 and it's always done with it. Was scared to try plastic twine, but the price difference, and poor consistency of Sisal finally persuaded me. To my surprise, it worked perfectly, no adjustments needed, but I notice my bales all seem pretty loose...
