8N Bearings and oil pick up and oil pump replacement

Great answers below - outcome will depend largely on what your last oil pressure was before the pickup fell off - if decent, will likely still be decent......

    Need help identifying year

Serial number reads 73379 to me - makes it a very late '53 Jub - maybe they ran out of Jub emblems for the front and put a '54 emblem on it. Part numbers starting with 9N means they are using common parts unchanged from the early tractors, so they didn't change the part numbers.

    shear pin

My old backblade has a solid steel L shaped pin in it, which I don't believe you could ever break. That said, we don't get enough snow down here to ever have to operate it backwards (pushing in reverse), so I don't worry about it at all. I don't think you can hurt anything on the tractor by...

    jube question: trans leak

It's there to make sure the tranny fluid drains out when the seal starts leaking a bit, so it won't goop up your clutch and stick it. Leave it open and alone, or you will be replacing your clutch.

    Thanks re: 85 Chevy

I tow 7 tons (5th wheel) in OD with my Ford 350 diesel and have never had a problem yet ('bout 40K miles towing). I keep hearing I'm not supposed to do that, but the D thing uses enough fuel in OD to break the bank, so I guess I'll keep doing it until....

    9N backfire

As below, front mount distributor only goes in one way. Looking at cap from front of tractor plug wires are as follows: 10 o"clock is #1 (at the front of the engine), 8 o"clock is #2, 4 o"clock is #4 (Back of the engine) and 2 o"clock is #3. Backfires are usually caused by points not set right...

    800- What's the Trick ?

Piney: If I remember correctly, I had to remove the valve cover to get enough room to replace the fuel shutoff & strainer on my 861 - bit easier than removing the gas tank!!! Good Luck.

    why switch to 12v ...??

I converted our 861 to 12 volts many years ago, because it sits out in the weather unused for months and the starter shaft would get a real thin film of rust on it which would sometimes keep the bendix from throwing in. Would have to pull the starter and clean up the shaft. Got tired of that, so...

    400 RPM

Well, if somebody's put a 2 cycle engine in it, it will spark every crank rev, but both of mine are 4 cycles and spark every 2 revs of the crank.
