1948 Model B John Deer Pops out of 5th Gear

In the video above, there should be a detent to stop the shifter from moving so easy. I would think vibrations might cause the shifter to move out of sync and cause gear jamming. I'll keep this in mind when I remove the steering support to look inside. I know that it will not fix itself, and...

1948 Model B John Deer Pops out of 5th Gear

Thanks all. Where would I find the tolerances for the fork should I have to braise it back to specks?

1948 Model B John Deer Pops out of 5th Gear

This 1948 JD Model B was mostly restored. The cylinders bored, new piston, valve job and painted. Driven in parades mostly now. Recently it has started popping out of 5th gear (so far, only 5th). Sometimes when it pops out of 5th, the shifter and the transmission is jammed. I have to remove...

1952 John Deere B, Carb issues.

I have been thinking about setting the load adjust by jacking up both rear wheels, setting the brakes a little and run the engine to set the load. But, I may just burn up the breaks not to mention that I'll be standing in harm's way if it were to fall off the jacks. Better ideas please.

1952 John Deere B, Carb issues.

Just what procedure will you be using to tune your rebuilt carburetor? I'm asking because I'm to that point with my 1948 JD Model B. The idle part is simple enough but setting the load with no implements has me baffled. Just wondering.

Help on B pto shaft leak

Yes, I was thinking that! I can't see anything written down but it makes since. The spring must be able to push the cup and the packing against the bushing face and hold it their, just in case there is some in out play in the PTO. Even a 1/32" play would be enough for the hydraulic oil to pass...

Help on B pto shaft leak

The brass seat in the housing was highly polished, the same as the cup that presses against it. No groves or scuffs. This tells me the cup and the 2 rubber seals ride on the PTO shaft and turn with it. The 2 rubber seals don't really seal but act like a break so the cup turns with the PTO...

Help on B pto shaft leak

Yes, where the cup and the bushing match up, it is highly polished where they rub together, however, it still leaked even after I replaced the 2 rubber seals inside the cup. Just how much tension is the spring suppose to have? Could it be the spring is not pressing hard enough against the...

Help on B pto shaft leak

JOCCO, I have the same problem with my 1948 Model B. Everything worked just fine for the first 3 years after I restored it, then it started leaking back into the differential. I replaced the Bearing, oil seal and the 2 packing seals that go inside the cup, oil seal but still had a leak...

    Driving a 300 Utility

The only other tractor I drove is a 1948 Deere Model B and it doesn't have a clutch pedal or synchromesh gears. The new to us International 300 Utility is running now and runs really well. Was it designed to shift gears while going, like a car? This tractor does not have a torque amplifier...

Question: Hydraulic Fluid for a Farmall 300 Utility

OK. If I understand correctly, Hy-Tran goes in the hydraulics and the differential/transmission. Something like 10 gallons. No additives and get Hy-Tran and not anything that doesn't say Hy_Tran or Hy-Tran equivalent. I can do that.

Question: Hydraulic Fluid for a Farmall 300 Utility

Yes, He is hoping to use it with a Howse mower to mow his 25 acres in west Texas to keep the ticks and chiggers down. The Howse 5 foot mower is to attached via the quick connect (we will have to rig something), so the hydraulics will be used to lift the the mower.

Question: Hydraulic Fluid for a Farmall 300 Utility

I have this 1955 Farmall 300 Utility that I’m trying to fix up for my son and I need some advice about the hydraulics system. There was water in the hydraulic system (all milky looking) so I drained it. I want to refill it but am uncertain as to what hydraulic fluid to use. My supplier has...

    1955 Farmall 300 Utility Steering

My son purchased a 1955 Farmall 300 Utility to mow most of 25 acres that he recently purchased in West Texas. He bought it from a real nice lady who?s husband did some collecting. She said it was running when they parked it. I brought it home with me because my son doesn?t have the time or a...
