    4610 using water

Yes, grey mayonnaise under the filler cap. Now what? I don't have the time or skills to take the engine out. Do we know anyone near Punxsutawney, New Bethlehem, or Kittanning PA who can do this work?

    4610 using water

I have never seen water, mud, or milk on the dipstick. The breather vents the valve cover, which I have never had off. What is a likely path for steam to get under the valve cover? Will it be obvious if I pull it? Should I have a gasket on hand before I remove the valve cover?

    4610 using water

My 4610 uses water. I get steam and brown snot out of the breather tube. I get a hint of steam in the exhaust, only noticable when I start it. I have never had anything but oil on the dipstick or in the oil. The tractor has 1800 hours. It starts and runs very well. I have a damaged...

Should I keep the calcium in my 4610?

The tire guy took one rim out for welding when he came out Wednesday, and had it back and finished the job Friday. I am poorer, but glad the tractor is back. Now, I really need to get this thing painted. Does anyone have a suggestion on a paint that will match well enough? I would...

Should I keep the calcium in my 4610?

Also, we are putting the calcium back in. The only ballast they offer is Rimgard, but I can't spend that much now.

Should I keep the calcium in my 4610?

The tire truck is coming with two new tires, tomorrow. Wow, that's a lot of money. I am excited for new tires. The tech I spoke to at the shop also said that these old tires are going to be trouble, and I can't afford to be down much. The money I am spending is taking a big bite out of my...

Should I keep the calcium in my 4610?

I got a flat tire tonight. I ignored the warnings, calcium leaking around the tire stem. Tonight, it started gushing out a hole in the sidewall. I don't know if the tire can be saved (its not a very big hole.) Anyway, I have to call a tire truck tomorrow. My local guy had hip replacement, so...

    4610 won't start

My 4610 didn't crank at all Saturday. No click, no dummy lights illuminated. I use it every weekend, and some evenings during the week. Last weekend, I mowed with it. It has never cranked weakly. I cleaned the battery terminals tonight, positive was pretty crusty. No change. My voltmeter says...

Are there hazards to grazing oats

I have 4 acres I planted this spring in Timothy and oats. Between late planting and low PH, it didn't grow very tall. Rather than haying it, I want to graze it. The oats are in boot stage. I am grazing cows and horses. Is there any risk to the livestock from the hulls? How about as the grain...

    Who Farms w-1 Tractor Only????

I make hay and graze cows and horses, a small operation. I graze 20 acres and hay about 30. My only tractor is a Ford 4610. I also am lacking a tow vehicle for my trailers. I work 50-70 hours a week, and drive 45 minutes or more each way work, on call every third week. Making hay with one...

    Water quality

Interesting idea. It should work IF you can find a practical way to run the water through the wood without washing them away. Let the wood ships collect N for a season, Pile them up to finish composting for a season, then spread them back into the field. There is no tile around here. I have...

    Round bale feeders

Would unrolling the bales work? I never tried it, but I am told you can unroll them with the front tractor tire. Lots of guys on the cattle forum unroll. I don't like running the tractor in snow and ice, so I never tried.

    Round bale feeders

Your management must be quite different than mine. Are you leaving the ring in the same place for many bales, or do you move it? I have a very small herd (4 mothers and their calves, and 4 horses). I lay my bales out on pallets in rows in a narrow paddock. I use poly wire on reels to only...

OT... Making do with what I have

I have often wanted a Trac Vac, only to make compost. I figure that besides the yard, I can harvest some trails through the woods. Shredded leaves are great in the garden.

    vermeer 504c round baler

I just bought a 605C. It makes hay. No, it isn't easy, but a new baler costs 30 times as much. I haven't used this place, but a guy on another forum reported that they recoated his rubber roller for $100 + shipping. http://www.rubberroll.com
