    Suggestions Please 70 Diesel

I collect 70 diesels and the two things that make me walk away from a purchase is not having the original flywheel and transmission problems. Too expensive to fix. The 70 diesels have a very common problem of the flywheel getting loose and ruining the flywheel and the crankshaft splines. The...

    830 pony motor clutch

Heat it up with a MAPP gas torch and spray it with PB Blaster. Use a large pry bar to get it to move back and forth gradually.

Wish that I had taken a closer look at the bag of parts

BD...they have kits on Ebay for about $65. They do not include the float or the long air tube below the idle mixture screw. I think float sells for about $80 and the air tube (?????)

    830 pony motor

The service manual for 720/730 diesels has a complete section on the pony motor rebuilds. The engine is the same for your 830 pony motor, only the transmission is different. Critical points in a rebuild is to measure the connecting rods for being out of round at the crank end, rebuild the water...

    PTO Pump removal

Trying to remove pto pump from a JD 70 that had a loader on it. Does not appear to be any locking pin, but it is tight on the pto shaft. Tried using large pry bars but it will not budge. Figure I would ask for help before I wreck something.

    Splitting firewood

I drop and drag trees in the summer and cut and split in the fall. In the summer it is very easy to identify the dead trees. I have about 60 acres of thick woods and when the leaves are off can't always ID the recently dead trees. Mostly oak, elm and some cherry.

More JD 70 Pony Motor Frustration

Going through the resistor it should be reduced from 6 volts to 4.5 volts, so you are ok. On some models the starter button mounted on the starter had a side terminal so that when the starter was turning you had a straight 6 volts going to the coils and when the button was released it went to...

More JD 70 Pony Motor Frustration

My guess is that the contacts on the back of the switch are touching something to short it out. Could be what you are smelling. Very tight quarters behind the dash and can easily be shorting out. Usually touches the throttle shaft that runs from the right side of the tractor to the left side.

Sounds like they will work with your plug wires based on the info they priovided.

John Deere Pony Motor Plug Wires

You have plug wires designed for U.S. made coils that have a wire clip inside to clip in the bayonet end. The coils are foreign made with a barbed post that simply inserts into the end of plug wire. I have found the foreign made coils have a problem with the lead wires being brittle and break...

    730 diesel value

Mnfarmer...I would not make an offer until you hear the diesel engine run. Should be able to pull start it to check it out for engine noises and how the transmission sounds (especially 3rd gear). The two cylinder diesels have a common problem of loose flywheels, ruining the flywheel and...
