Starter issue?
Yesterday I heard an odd sound from (I assume) the starter (Ford 641) when trying to start the tractor. It was sort of a grinding/scraping sound which startled me so I didn't notice if the engine was actually turning over or not. Tried again and got the same sound. Disassembly of Ford 641 water pump
I just replaced the water pump on my tractor and would like to salvage the pulley from the old one. I removed an external e-clip from the shaft inside the pulley housing, supported the pulley housing and tried to drive the shaft out with a steel rod and several dead blows with a 9 lb hammer. YT's 12 to 6 voltage reducer
OK. I'm leaving it like it is. (YT doesn't offer the part anyway in spite of the listing.) tractor starts very quickly and really has no problems except for burned out 6v headlights. I'll replace them with 12v soon.- Bob Kellogg

YT's 12 to 6 voltage reducer
YT advertises a voltage reducer http://www.ytmag.com/S.52671_25303.htm (Part No: S.52671). Can this be used to operate a 6 V starter with a 12 V battery? Tractor is a Ford 641.- Bob Kellogg

Bill, I think that is because of the grounding. The Ford solenoid isolates the ground from the case and others are grounded to the case. When I converted from 6 to 12 V I tried to use one of the many ground versions I have only to get very frustrated. I found out they were grounded so I...- Bob Kellogg

Need help on Ford 641
I solved the problem this AM and I think you may be right, Mike. I did replace the solenoid with a 12 VDC one (delivered yesterday) AND cleaned the + and - cable ends. Can't say for sure which solved the problem but it started right up making me a happy camper. I certainly can't explaon why hot...- Bob Kellogg
