    Steering Pedestal Lubricant

Yes that was me. First I found the pedestal had some cracks in it, some were welded and maybe something didn't fit right. I found and purchased a used pedestal on E-Bay which was just a few miles from me. I disassembled everything that is replaceable on the used pedestal and am replacing it all...

    John Deere B Steering

I actually found the problem of why the tractor turned so hard. The Eccentric Bushing, pn B2191R which is under the sector was nearly frozen on the shaft. I had a hard time getting this part off the shaft. I used a 3 lb. hammer and a 3/4" brass punch. Still I would have to re-tap the threads if...

    Steering Pedestal Lubricant

John Deere Styled 1947 B sn 202247. What lubricant do I put in the top of the steering pedestal with the sector and worm gear? I have a service manual and operators manual but cannot find this in either? I thought it was 90wt. gear oil but am not sure? Thanks! Bob

1947 John Deere B pedestal bushing

Thanks for your reply. It seems some auto mfg. use the same part # for different parts. All suppliers I can find that list this John Deere number say it is out of stock because it is obsolete (they no longer make it). I need to find new old stock or someone that can make this part! thanks, Bob

1947 John Deere B pedestal bushing

Where can I buy one of these bushings or have one made. Part # b101r bushing. This bushing goes in the bottom of the front pedestal on Styled John Deere B tractors with narrow front end. I have checked every parts supplier I can find on line and local JD dealer. Dealer says part is obsolete and...

    John Deere B Steering

I bent a 1-1/16th" wrench and was able to get it on the last two bolts without removing the radiator. I bought a used pedestal because I found a crack in the old one and lubricant for the sector was running out. The one I bought has roll-o-matic. I am happy about that! I decided to replace all...

    John Deere B Steering

Thanks for your reply. I have parts book. With all due respect I won't know what is bad till I get it apart. My service manual says to take out the six bolts and remove the unit from the tractor. I wonder if there is a special tool or wrench to reach the 2 center bolts without taking out the...

    John Deere B Steering

Thanks for your reply! The worm gear bearings and races were replaced with new a couple years ago and installed according to service manual. I jacked the wheels off the ground and it turns easy. I am not good at explaining but I'm trying - With wheels on the ground and all weight on them I...

    John Deere B Steering

We have a 1947 B sn 202247. It steers extremely hard. We also have a JD50 and it doesn't turn hard at all. I decided to take the front pedestal off and check the shaft and bushings. I have removed the steering wheel and steering shaft. I got the nuts off 4 of the 6 studs holding it onto the...

John Deere 40T rockshaft left seals leak

Took the Rock Shaft unit off the 40T tractor. I have a John Deere 40T Service Manual but it does not tell me how to get the shafts out of the housing. Do I just press them out or is there a set screw or something somewhere holding them in place? Does anyone know where in west central Ohio, I...

John Deere 40T rockshaft left seals leak

Thanks for your reply! In my mind a retainer should have a split so it can be taken out? I see this on neither shaft. I am sure it is the large shaft leaking and it looks to me like there is no seal? Did your cork seal stop the leak? Thanks, Bob
