    JD 40 U Steering Post

Thanks. It did not leak until I cleaned up the tractor to paint it. I guess a few oil leaks keeps some rust away.

    JD 40 U Steering Post

There appears to be a plug at the base of my steering post. However, it does not have any recess to remove it - smooth surface so, if it is suppose to be removable, perhaps someone broke it off. Anyway, it seeps oil. Is this suppose to be a drain plug? Thanks.

    320 Engine Identification

None taken. One must combine "wearing the pants" with tactical marital operations - 'If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.' It's really her little tractor but there's options. I'll probably just look for a package of all the parts I need and get back to it as I have time.

    320 Engine Identification

I guess it"s not that important to my wife and she still says "sell it" (with more emphasis). It needs some engine internals replaced, a few externals cleaned or replaced, tires and paint but she really does not see the point of keeping it.

    320 Engine Identification

Perhaps this is not a 320 but a 40 - added a couple photos if anyone can tell. According to jd40.com, the engine number would fit into the 2/8/1954 category. Also, I might be mistaken on the sleeves. When I looked inside the block it seemed like it but with the pistons out I buffed an area on...

    320 Engine Identification

Following up on a 1957 320-U, I have attached a couple of photos. As I understand, the block casting should be M64T - this one just has M64-. And the engine code number should be 3 or 4 digits followed by a letter - this one is 5 digits, 91139. The original engines were not sleeved? - this one...

    320 U Follow up - Need Motor

Thanks for the replies. It is a '57 straight steer. Looks like the original color was all yellow (my father-in-law added some green on it). Maybe I'll go ahead and separate the engine, take the crank out, get physical with those pistons and see what happens.

    320 U Follow up - Need Motor

Hello Again, Thanks for the information from my last inquiry about what model blocks would fit the 320 - I will be following up with calls to those who had an engine to part with. The machine shop I use said they would be surprised if those pistons could be busted loose - well, they won"t be...

    John Deere 320 U

This engine is really corroded and I"m not sure I can rebuild it. There was 3" of dirt in the oil pan. However, the block had coolant in it yet. I suppose I could get the internals but wondered if there was any difference between models. I know it"s a rare one - the highway department bought it...
